...community appeals for autonomous community, access roads and improved electricity supply
Stakeholders from Ezza Ntezi in Ebonyi State have pledged their support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s re-election bid and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders made the pledge during a sensitisation meeting at Hilltop Methodist Church, Umuezeoka, Ezza, organised as part of the APC’s ongoing grassroots mobilisation and community engagement ahead of the elections.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr Chukwu Arinze Lucas, who represents Ishielu South Constituency, said the visit was intended to familiarise the people with the party’s activities and strengthen its relationship with the community ahead of the polls.
Lucas noted that Ezza Ntezi had consistently supported the APC in previous elections, expressing confidence that the community would sustain the tradition in 2027.
He declared that the people were prepared to support APC candidates across all levels of government, from the presidency to the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.
“We are voting APC. We are going to vote for all APC candidates, from the president to the governor, senators, House of Representatives members and House of Assembly candidates,” he said.
The Leader of the delegation and the State Deputy Chairman of the APC, Hon. Chinedu Alphonsus Nwali, said the visit was part of the party’s statewide engagement with communities to consolidate support for Governor Nwifuru and other APC candidates.
Nwali disclosed that the community had appealed for the creation of an autonomous community and the construction of access roads, assuring the stakeholders that their requests would be conveyed to the governor for consideration.
He emphasised the importance of sustained engagement between political leaders and the grassroots, noting that community concerns remained essential to discussions on development and governance.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and immediate past Chairman of Ezza North Local Government Area, Chief Ogodo Ali Nome, attributed the community’s support for the APC to what he described as the administration’s efforts to improve road infrastructure, create autonomous communities and promote recognition of the identity of the Ezza people.
Nome said the community’s expectations for further development had strengthened its interest in maintaining a constructive relationship with the state government.
The Vice president of the community’s Town Union, Mr Chijoike Ali, reaffirmed the stakeholders’ commitment to supporting APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, attributing the community’s political strength to unity and a common understanding among its people.
However, he urged the state government to address some pressing developmental needs of the area.
Ali appealed for the creation of an autonomous community to bring governance closer to the people, the construction of access roads to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce to markets, and the installation of a transformer to improve electricity supply.
He noted that improved road infrastructure would ease the movement of farm produce, enhance commercial activities and contribute to the economic wellbeing of residents.
Similarly, another community representative, Chief Chukwuma Usulor, expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for what he described as his administration’s role in restoring peace to the area through the recognition of the community’s traditional institution.
Usulor said the people viewed the development as an important step towards strengthening peace, unity and the preservation of their traditional identity.
He added that the community was prepared to reciprocate the gesture through its support for the APC in the 2027 elections.
The APC delegation said its sensitisation and mobilisation engagements would continue across Ebonyi State as the party intensifies efforts to consolidate its grassroots structures ahead of the general elections.
Meanwhile, the meeting also brought renewed attention to discussions surrounding political power rotation in Ebonyi State, with some stakeholders expressing expectations that the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District could be considered for the governorship after the completion of Governor Nwifuru’s tenure.
Ezza has been mentioned among the possible beneficiaries of such an arrangement, although the issue remains part of ongoing political discussions about equity, fairness and power rotation among the state’s three senatorial districts.
The development underscores the growing significance of grassroots consultations, community interests and political zoning in shaping conversations ahead of the 2027 elections in Ebonyi State.
