The Ebonyi State Government has urged residents to disregard what it described as sponsored media narratives, distractions and poorly coordinated protests allegedly targeted at Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and his administration.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh, made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, saying the recent developments were aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension in the state.
According to him, while the government recognises the constitutional rights of citizens to express their opinions and engage in peaceful protests, such rights should not be abused by individuals or groups seeking to undermine the government or diminish its achievements.
Omebeh urged Ebonyians to remain calm and discerning, insisting that the negative narratives against the administration were not supported by facts, evidence or the realities on ground.
He said Governor Nwifuru, since assuming office, had demonstrated commitment to the development and welfare of the state through investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, workers’ welfare, rural development, empowerment programmes and social interventions.
The commissioner said the administration’s policies were anchored on the People’s Charter of Needs, which he described as a governance philosophy designed to place the interests, aspirations and welfare of the people at the centre of government.
He maintained that while political opposition was expected in a democratic society, attempts to substitute facts with propaganda and constructive criticism with politically motivated attacks were unacceptable.
According to him, the government’s achievements could be assessed through ongoing road projects, rehabilitation of schools and healthcare facilities, improved workers’ welfare, rural development initiatives and various empowerment programmes across the state.
The commissioner therefore called on the people to judge the Nwifuru administration by its record and impact rather than political propaganda, urging them to visit communities, inspect projects and interact directly with beneficiaries of government programmes.
Omebeh reassured Ebonyians that Governor Nwifuru remained focused on his mandate and would not be distracted by what he described as political theatrics and sponsored attacks. He called for unity, constructive engagement and development-focused criticism, urging youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments for interests contrary to the collective good of the state
