The Ezza Ezekuna General Youth Assembly, EEGYA, has inaugurated an 11-man Constitution Drafting Committee to produce a working constitution for the Assembly.
Inaugurating the committee on Monday at Adig Suites, Abakaliki, the National President of EEGYA, Engr. Jeff Ogbu, charged the members to draft a constitution that will promote peace, unity, and progress among the youths of Ezza clan.
According to him, the EEGYA constitution is not designed to serve the interest of any individual or group, but the collective interest of the generality of Ezza people.
He urged the committee to discharge the assignment with diligence, transparency, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Engr. Ogbu further stated that the constitution, when operational, will serve as a binding framework for all Ezza youths. He mandated the committee to complete and submit its draft within six weeks.
The 11-man committee is chaired by the General Manager of Ebonyi Pipe Production Factory, Barr. Uchenna Otuh, while Barr. Sampson Aligwe will serve as Secretary.
Other members of the committee are: Comrade Nwafor Samson, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State Council; Hon. Solomon Nwafor, Secretary, Ebonyi State Market Development Board; Barr. C.N. Mgbada; Barr. Chijioke Ali; Barr. Michael Nwakpa; Hon. Chimezie Ugama; Barr. Solomon Okah Ifeanyi; Barr. Stephen Ekuma; and Dr. Chinedu Akam, Esq.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the committee, Barr. Otuh thanked the EEGYA leadership for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured that the committee would work assiduously to deliver a credible draft within the stipulated timeframe.
He commended the initiative, noting that a functional constitution would help to stabilize the operations and programmes of the Assembly and provide clear direction for the youths of Ezza clan.
