The attention of the South-East Zonal Executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media in which a member of the party, who reportedly aspired to contest for the APC ticket for the House of Assembly in Imo State but secured only two votes in the primary election, was seen making disparaging remarks about one of the leaders of our great party in the South-East, the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru .
Paschal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, a known card-carrying member of the APC from Imo State, was seen in the video criticizing and disparaging Governor Francis Nwifuru.
The South-East Zonal Executive wishes to make it clear that membership of the APC comes with responsibilities, including respect for the party's leadership and constituted authorities. Differences of opinion and legitimate criticism are permissible within the democratic structures of the party, but public insults and disparaging remarks against our leaders are unacceptable.
Governor Francis Nwifuru has had a long career in public service. He was elected multiple times as a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and served as Speaker before being elected Governor of Ebonyi State.
As Governor, he has continued to pursue his administration's development agenda for Ebonyi State, drawing on his experience in state politics and public administration.
The South-East Zonal Executive therefore strongly condemns what it considers to be the careless and unacceptable nature of the remarks attributed to Paschal Okechukwu. The party will not tolerate conduct by any member that undermines the dignity of its leadership or brings the party into disrepute.
Accordingly, the South-East Zonal Executive has directed Paschal Okechukwu to tender an unreserved public apology to His Excellency, Governor Francis Nwifuru, and to the members of the APC in Ebonyi State.
Failure to comply with this directive may result in the initiation of appropriate disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the constitution and disciplinary procedures of the party.
In a statement issued by Dozie Ikedife Jr, who is the South East Organizing Secretary of APC, he said that the APC in the South-East is a family. "We encourage constructive disagreement, debate and healthy political competition, but we will not accept insults, personal attacks or conduct that undermines the unity and discipline of our party".
