Represented at the occasion by Barr. Patrick Mbam, Senator Nwebonyi said the distribution of farm inputs to farmers across the zone had become an annual ritual because Ebonyi North is predominantly agrarian. He stressed that the early distribution of farm inputs would not only boost agricultural productivity and guarantee food security but also create economic prosperity for the people.
While officially flagging off the distribution of the fertilizers, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku represented by the Director in the Ministry, Mrs Oby Chidinma Okoye praised Senator Nwebonyi for his visionary leadership and charged the farmers to utilize the inputs to create food security in the state.
Setting the tone for the event, the Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Barr. Stephen Nwankpa, lauded Senator Nwebonyi for what he described as his superlative performance in the 10th Senate.
He declared that the Senator's re-election for a second term was sacrosanct, while urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertilizer and ensure that it was applied for the purpose for which it was provided rather than selling it.
Also speaking, the Member representing Izzi West State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Abiri; the APC Chairmanship Candidate for Izzi Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Helen Aduga; the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief Whip on Community Engagement and Human Welfare, Apostle Benjamin Obeji and the Leader of Izzi Legislative Council and State Chairman of the Councilors Forum, Hon. Nwabueze Ominyi, commended Senator Nwebonyi for his continued support for farmers and his various interventions across Ebonyi North.
Some of the beneficiaries, including the traditional ruler of Ndieze Echi autonomous community, HRH Eze Ogbonna Eze, Mr. Ogaranya Sunday and Hon Mrs Ogbonna Sunday, expressed profound gratitude to Senator Nwebonyi for the fertilizer intervention, pledging to utilize the inputs diligently to achieve bumper harvests.
The distribution of one thousand bags of fertilizers to Izzi local government area was conducted in an orderly manner, with each of the fourteen electoral wards allocated 60 bags of fertilizer for onward distribution to genuine farmers across the wards.
The event also featured testimonies from some past beneficiaries, who recounted how previous farm inputs received through Senator Nwebonyi's intervention contributed to improved yields and bumper harvests during the last farming season.
The initiative underscores Senator Nwebonyi's sustained commitment to supporting agriculture, empowering farmers, enhancing food security and improving the economic wellbeing of constituents across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
