Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii has emerged as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State for the 2027 general election after securing victory in the party’s primary election conducted across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Odii, who was the sole aspirant in the contest, was returned unopposed following the primary monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Announcing the result at the party’s collation centre in Abakaliki on Tuesday, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Dr. Lekon Rotimi, declared Odii the winner after polling a total of 8,281 votes.
Rotimi said the votes were collated and verified from all the local government areas before the final declaration.
“After careful collation and verification of results from the 13 local government areas, the sole candidate of the PDP secured a total of 8,281 votes. Therefore, I hereby declare Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as the winner of the PDP governorship primary election,” he stated.
Reacting to the outcome of the exercise, the Ebonyi State PDP Chairman, Mr. Chukwuma Igwe, described the primary as peaceful, transparent and reflective of the unity within the party.
According to him, the PDP has continued to conduct its internal affairs through consensus and mutual understanding, stressing that the party remains focused on reclaiming power in the state.
“We have carried out all our primaries by consensus because PDP remains a peaceful family in Ebonyi State. We are united and focused on our destination. The people will soon witness a new political direction,” Igwe said.
Addressing party faithful and supporters shortly after his declaration, Odii expressed appreciation to party members for their confidence in him and pledged to provide purposeful leadership if elected governor in 2027.
The PDP flag bearer commended the peaceful conduct of the primary and urged members to remain united ahead of the election.
He also criticized the current administration in the state, alleging that governance had been reduced to a personal enterprise, a situation he said must be reversed through collective efforts.
Odii, who was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, said his ambition was driven by a desire to reposition Ebonyi State and deliver a government focused on development and the welfare of citizens.
“Ebonyi can never be consumed or conquered. The state cannot be run as a personal family business. We are committed to rescuing our dear state and restoring good governance,” he said.
The PDP candidate promised to prioritize economic growth, workers’ welfare, education and social development, insisting that the state deserves a government that serves both present and future generations.
“It is time to establish a government that works for the people, improves the economy, cares for civil servants, teachers, women and youths, and guarantees a better future for our children,” Odii added.
Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 governorship election, he maintained that the PDP was prepared for the task ahead and vowed to work towards what he described as the liberation and progress of Ebonyi State.
Odii further urged party supporters to remain steadfast and committed as the party begins preparations for the forthcoming electoral contest.
