The Ebonyi state commissioner for water resources, Chinedum Nkah has confirmed the attack and vandalization of Eziulo Water facility iby Criminals n Ishielu local Government Area of the state describing the attack as a sabotage to his office and that of the state governor who is puting every efforts on ground at ensuring the people of the state enjoy uninterrupted clean water supply across the state.
The Commissioner confirmed the incident while briefing journalist in his office at cemetery city Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital.
According to the commissioner,the assailants stormed the water facility on early hours of Easter Sunday and attacked matcheted and shot the local security attached to the water facility and vandalized cables in the facility.
He querried why the men of the underworld would launched an attack on innocent security men on duty on the same day Christians were busy celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He regretted the actions of the criminal elements, noting that two of the local security who were victims are currently receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
"That was on Easter sunday night my people were celebrating Easter sunday.I was in the village, that early morning hours, my attention was drawn that criminals stormed the Eziulo Water Scheme.
Not just that they stormed the Eziulo Water Scheme, they shot two of our security men.Two of them are critically injured and are receiving treatment in a hospital in the state".
Nkah vowed that those involved in the act will be fished out and appropriate justice will be served on them to serve as deterrent to other criminals.
He noted that the state government was doing everything humanly possible to make water available for the residents of the state, adding that the Government was working toward achieving the April deadline given to residents as the last day to end water scarcity in the state.
He emphasized that Governor Nwifuru has done well in all spheres of his administration adding since his administration came on board two additional water schemes are nearing completion making it a total of three Water schemes in the state.
"The Eziulo water scheme that is 100% functional capacity is what the men of Underworld,Went and destroyed and cut off the cables that is supplying power to the facility.
On wether the government was making plans to repair the damaged section of the water scheme he said "yes, we are doing that immediately. We're doing that
but we are reinforcing our security system first
before we start fixing those things. It must be fixed immediately. We're not
relenting, but first of all we are checking and reshaping our security architecture to forestall future occurance".
He called on traditional rulers and community leaders to join hands in securing government facilities in their areas.
