Nwifuru Orders Thorough Investigation Into Kidnap, Murder Of Eze Francis Igwe

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the abduction and gruesome killing of the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, HRH Eze Francis Igwe.

The late monarch, who is also the father of the immediate past Deputy Governor of the state, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday while on his way to church.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru gave the directive while reacting to the tragic incident that has thrown the community into mourning.

Dr. Uzor explained that the governor who had earlier cancelled the scheduled State Executive Council meeting to personally sympathize with the bereaved family and the people of the community, also led members of the State Executive Council on a condolence visit to the royal residence of the deceased monarch in Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

During the visit, Governor Nwifuru disclosed that security agencies had already made some arrests in connection with the crime and assured that those responsible for the act would not escape justice.

The governor, according to Dr. Uzor, described the slain monarch as an accomplished elder statesman and a courageous leader who served his people with dedication and commitment over the years.

He further prayed for the peaceful repose of the royal father’s soul and urged members of the immediate family as well as the entire Ikwo Noyo clan to remain strong and bear the loss with courage.

Responding on behalf of the family, the eldest son of the late monarch and former Deputy Governor of the state, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, expressed appreciation to the governor for the efforts made to secure their father’s freedom while he was in captivity.

“Though our father is not here today to appreciate you, his entire family will remain eternally grateful for your efforts,” he said.
