Ebonyi Speaker Holds Christmas Party For Rural Children; Free Medicare For Pregnant, Nursing Mothers, Aged

Over two hundred rural Children on Tuesday, participated in a Christmas party sponsored by the speaker of Ebonyi state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa.

The event which took place at Effiengbabu, inyimegu Ikwo, the country home of Mr Speaker saw the children treated to varieties of shows, such as dancing competition, handshake with father Christmas.among others.  Mouth watering gifts were shared to the children, while winners of the dancing competition received special gifts from father Christmas. The children expressed Joy over the event and prayed for God's blessings and protection on the speaker.
Similarly, the event equally featured free medical screening and treatment for over three hundred pregnant women, nursing mothers and aged people in the area.

Speaking during the event, the sponsor and speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Theophilus Igwe, described the programme as an event rooted in love, compassion, and communal responsibility. He emphasized that the initiative was designed not only to celebrate the festive season but to reinforce the importance of good health as the foundation of joyful living.

“This Children’s Christmas Party and Free Medical Outreach is not merely an event; it is an expression of love, of community, and of shared responsibility for one another,” he said.
He highlighted that good health remains the most precious gift to mankind, noting that without health, celebrations lose their joy and families lose their peace. “parting will bring smiles to our children, but access to medical care will secure their wellbeing long after the decorations are taken down,” he added, stressing that the programme was designed to help families enter the new year stronger and healthier.

The Speaker commended the Baby Shower Initiative and the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health for their steadfast partnership, describing their contribution as a testament to the power of collaboration in community-building. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the wellbeing and development of the people, noting that the initiative is only one step in a broader agenda to promote health, happiness, and holistic community care.
The Baby Shower Desk Officer, Mrs. Ngozi Aloh lauded the Speaker for sponsoring such a meaningful event. She explained that the outreach went beyond Christmas celebration, focusing also on attending to the sick and ensuring healthy living during the festive period.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ogbu Juliet and Mr. Ekoyo David expressed gratitude to Rt. Hon. Odunwa for his generosity and compassion. They prayed for God’s continued blessings upon him for remembering the community at such a crucial time and pledged their unflinching support for the administration of Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and leadership of the speaker.

The free medical outreach was carried out in collaboration with the baby shower initiative and Ebonyi State ministry of Health.
