Children of Professor Samuel Onyeagoziri Ndubueze, an Ebonyi popular bishop accused of sexually assaulting a 22 year old lady in the state, has described him as a victim of manipulation.
Ndubueze who is the General Overseer of Champions of Truth Church in Abakaliki, the state capital, was said to have repeatedly slept with the 22 year old lady said to sick-cell patient to change her genotype and cure her the sickness.
He was arrested by the state police command following a petition against him on the matter and subsequently arraigned and remanded at the Abakaliki correctional center by a Magistrate court.
His children who appealed for his release, said the man was rather the victim and not the lady.
In a statement issued by Daniel Chukwuebuka Ndubueze on behalf of the children of the accused, the children said their father was manipulated in ways that twisted love into lies and trust into torment.
He opined that what began as an act of kindness became a trap, pulling him and his children into the current abyss.
"Greetings in the name of the God we all serve, the One who sees every tear, hears every silent plea, and binds the wounds of the brokenhearted.
"We, the children of Archbishop Prof. Sam Onyeagoziri Ndubueze Okorie, Presiding Bishop of Champions of The Truth Church, located at Champions Cathedral Mile 50 Abakaliki, come before you today not as strangers, but as your own flesh and blood, laid bare in our vulnerability.
"Our spirits are heavy, our home shattered, and our father's light, once a beacon for so many, now flickers in the shadows of unjust chains.
"We write this appeal with trembling hands and aching hearts, imploring you to listen, to remember, and to act with the mercy that defines our Ebonyi spirit.
For weeks now, our father has languished in detention, accused of a crime he knew nothing about, ensnared not by truth but by the venom of public opinion. It began with a podcast, granted by Ebonyi son, who poured salt into wounds it never bothered to heal.
"In that interview, Ebonyi son and our father's accuser, Euphemia Edeh, wove a tale of lies that has gripped hearts and minds across our land. But we beseech you to pause, dear people, and let compassion pierce through the noise.
"That narrative is false, a carefully spun web of distortion. Our father was no perpetrator; he was the victim, manipulated by Euphemia Edeh in ways that twisted love into lies and trust into torment. What began as an act of kindness became a trap, pulling him, and now us into this abyss.
"Consider the man you have known, Archbishop Sam, who for over three years opened his home and heart to Euphemia, not with malice, but with the selfless generosity of a shepherd. He harbored no ill intent toward her. Instead, he poured out his life for her wellbeing, providing shelter, sustenance, and unwavering support through her battles as a sickle cell patient.
"When crises struck, it was our father's own blood that he donated to save her, a sacrifice born of pure compassion, flowing from his veins to hers in the quiet hours of emergency. This was no scheme of harm, but a testament to his calling, to love the afflicted as Christ loves us.
"Yet, in the retelling, this devotion has been painted as darkness, and our pleas for understanding fall on ears deafened by outrage. Oh, how we long for you to see the full picture, the quiet erosion of our once peaceful home.
"Before Euphemia came to live with us, joy filled our lives, laughter at our table, prayers rising like incense, a family woven tight by faith and shared dreams. But her presence shifted the sands beneath us.
"A sexual relationship blossomed between her and our father, one that he, in his human weakness nurtured. We do not shy from this truth, it wounded us deeply. Drawing resources and attention away from his own flesh and blood, leaving us to navigate the neglect in silence.
"It was a frailty we never imagined in the man who preached righteousness from the pulpit. Yet, even in that storm, our father sought to shield and provide for her, never dreaming it would one day be weaponized against him.
"And now, some faceless forces, are lurking in the corners of envy and malice, hell-bent on dismantling our father's legacy and the sacred work of Champion of Truth Cathedral. They have enlisted Euphemia as their unwitting, or perhaps willing pawn, and that notorious podcaster, Ebonyi son, as their megaphone.
"Together, they churn out falsehoods like poison from a well once pure, swaying the tide of public anger to drown a good man. Lies amplified on airwaves, whispers turned to roars all to bury the truth under rubble of suspicion.
"But we know the heart of Ebonyi, we are a people who discern the wheat from the chaff, who stand against those trying to sow the seed of discord. Will you let these destroyers prevail? To continue their torment against an innocent man?
"We, his children, stand exhausted at a crossroads, lost without the compass of our father's guidance. He is our breadwinner, our anchor, the one who taught us to rise after every fall. His absence echoes in empty rooms, in unpaid bills, in the hollow pains of our meals shared without his voice.
"We wander directionless, our futures frayed, pleading for the dawn that his release would bring. Sleep evades us, hope flickers like a candle in the wind. Yet, in this valley, we have found the grace of forgiveness.
"Wholeheartedly, we have forgiven our father for his escapades with Euphemia, embracing the frailty of human nature that spares no one, not even bishops and apostles of the cross. He in turn, has fallen to his knees before us, tears streaming, begging our pardon, and to all whom his wrong choices have offended, to our extended family in Ebonyi, the body of Christ and his flocks in his ministry, he extends that same contrite heart saying "Forgive me, as I seek to make amends in the light of truth", he said
He appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru to come to their rescue and save their father from his ordeal.
"It is to you, H.E. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, our most amiable governor, and to every soul in our beloved land from the hills down to the rivers that nourishes our root, we now turn with this desperate plea.
"Come to our rescue. Save our father from this premeditated plot, this orchestrated storm meant to shatter what God has built. Intervene with the power of justice tempered by mercy, lift your voices in our defense and open the gates of fairness that have been denied him too long.
"For in saving him, you save a piece of us all, a reminder that Ebonyi is not a place of hasty judgments, but of redemptive love", he stated.
