By Celestine Okeh,

De Norse -men Klub international DNKI has celebrated her 2025 humanitarian service day with a visit to inmate of Nigerla correctional services, Abakaliki corstodial Center, where items worth hundreds of thousands of naira was donated to them. They equally distributed over 50 bags of 50kg rice and cash gifts to over 50 selected widows and indigent persons across the state.

Speaking during a visit to Abakaliki correctional facility, Comrade Okenwa Nnachi Uka, DNKI Governor in Ebonyi and the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Internal Security, said they were at the facility to reach out to the inmate as they mark the 2025 humanitarian service day.
"Let me start by appreciating the leadership of Abakaliki correctional center for the good job they are doing. The last time I visited here  was with the chairman,House of Representatives committee on reformatory institution, Rt Hon. Chinedu Ogah. We saw how congested this place is, he made promises to intervene .i must confess that the leadership of Abakaliki correctional center is doing well. Looking at the number of persons here, and the effort put in to ensure they are well taken care of is commendable and for also granting us the opportunity to have interaction with our brothers here. Like I said before we came in here , People herein are still our brothers and today is a very special day, all over the world is known as DNKI Humanitarian service day. It is a day set aside tp reach out to the needy, to the indigent and to carry out services that could be very beneficial to mankind.  Over the years we have visited some other places, during my first year in office we were at motherless baby home at Nsugbe, second year, we went to other motherless baby home at Azu ebonyi, the third year, we were at iboko where they had choera outbreak and donated disinfectant and so.many other things and this year being my last year in office, I decided we come around here and show love to our brothers here. We understand that they could be people that are here that have already gotten their sentences, and are being kept here correctional purposes. We're also aware that there are people who are here for one crime or the other, but I understand that Nigeria judicial system is the accusatorial system. They are persons who are here who may as well be very innocent and as an organization that believes in Justice and equally,we want to tell you that all hope is not lost.. we want to tell you to keep Faith in God. In our own little way, we have come with few items, such as disinfectant, bathroom slippers, detergent, toiletries and so many other items.

"In our midst here we have so many lawyers, even in a probono  arrangements can offer assistant to some of you. My humble self is already intervening in one matter and I can assure you, in few weeks to come l, the person will be free and join his relatives at home.

"We want assure you that we're with you. We will make our numbers available to the leadership of this facility, and those of you who has been granted bail and the bail condition are minor things that we could come in to assist to secure such bail we will not hesitate to do that.
"I want to advise, if you are here because you actually committed a crime, my dear brothers, crime does not pay.crime has never paid anybody. So, if God grants you freedom and you steps out from this place, please do not go back to crime", he advised.

In his response, the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Benedict Nnagozie Oyoko, commended the group for the visit and assured of commitment of management of the correctional center in ensuring safety and security.

"I want to commend you for your good work. We the management of this custodial centre, will make everything possible to ensure that there will be no outbreak of law in this custodial centre that will put the state in high tension.

"Many inmates are changing, we have many things that made them to change. National open university is in this custodial centre and we have registered many students and many of them are going to do their Masters degree in the university and government is going to pay for them.We have encouraged the students to put in their best in education. We have so many things that can make the small ones here to change. We have primary school, we have secondary school.

"So many inmates are here because of civil matters because people want to match them and they resisted them. This can happen to any of us but we pray God will continue to be with the inmates because it is only God that is the finisher of any man’s faith".

Meanwhile, some of the widows who benefited from rice and cash gifts, Mrs. Esther Kenneth Idike, thanked the group for remembering her and prayed God to double their pockets.

"I am very happy, I never expected this type of gesture. I just saw a message in my phone over it. Nobody called me and I came here because of the message I got and got this type of thing. Since my husband died in February this year, nobody has called me to give me a bag of rice but today, I getting it through this Norsemen group. My prayer is for God to double their pockets.. anywhere they brought out what they gave me, my God will reward them.

"Life has not been easy for me since January this year till now since I lost my husband but God has been there for me".
On her part, Mrs Christiana Eze, said,
"I am overwhelmed with joy on this gesture and I didn’t expect it. They have given me food and cash, my God will reward them abundantly".

The 2025 DNKI Humanitarian service day climaxed with dinner for members and spouses and friends.
