The senator representing Ebonyi North senatorial zone, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has distributed 2,000 three-seater desks for 6,000 students, textbooks, exercise books and branded school bags to pupils and students of public primary and secondary Schools in Ebonyi North Senatorial zone of the state.
Flagging off the distribution at Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi state, the Governor of the state Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru laud the gesture describing it as a “sustainable project” which aims to address critical infrastructure and learning material gaps for students.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Donatus Ilang stated that the initiative aligns with the government’s goals and helps meet the basic educational needs of the state.
He added, “What Senator Onyekachi is doing today and has already done are the most sustainable projects in the state.
“There is no growth without quality education; he has shown that he is truly representing his people.”
The chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Emegha, also commended Senator Nwebonyi for his accessibility and commitment.
“The people we sent to Abuja to represent us, the time has come for us to recognize them,” he said.
“The one you have embarked on now is good. There are some parents who develop high blood pressure when they remember that their children don’t have desks to sit on or textbooks. Continue in what you are doing.
“It is because of your generosity that this effort will last for all of us. It’s not about making noise. There are too many senators you can’t see around, but you see some senators every weekend.”
Addressing the crowd, Senator Nwebonyi reiterated his promise of “unprecedented representation.” He highlighted his track record, which includes distributing tricycles to students, empowering students, and constructing over 16 kilometers of roads across Ebonyi North—all within his first three months in office.
“Today, after having done so much in infrastructure and agriculture, we are doing the mother of them all—education,” he said.
“That is why I procured 2,000 three-seater desks for 6,000 people in Ebonyi North senatorial zone. I also procured English and Mathematics textbooks for our students. In 2026, we will see more of these.” He stressed that the educational materials were a fulfillment of his campaign promises.
The Council Chairman,Prince Ikechukwu Odono also praised the senator for his gesture, describing him as a true representative of the people.
He noted that the donated materials help mitigate some of the challenges schools face and advised the schools to make good use of them while calling for more similar gestures from other representatives in the area.
