It was a day of culture, unity, and politics yesterday at the ancient town of Oshiri in Onicha Local Government Area as the people of OHANIVO (Onicha, Ohaozara, and Ivo) gathered in their numbers to celebrate the annual New Yam Festival. The celebration was not just a cultural display, but also a political statement of unity, loyalty, and direction.
The colourful event drew the presence of heavyweights in Ebonyi and beyond, including but not limited to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, ably represented by the Acting Governor/Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila), the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engineer David Umahi, Senator Anthony Ani (Ebonyi South), Hon. Kama (House of Representatives, OHANIVO), Barr. Chioma Nweze (SSA to the President on Community engagement), the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Grace Umezuruike, Honourable Members of the State House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, Commissioners, political leaders, and a host of national dignitaries.
Addressing the jubilant crowd, Senator Umahi declared without hesitation that:
“Ebonyi State belongs to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to our dear Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. We are fully committed and there is no room for opposition, not to talk of any coalition.”
He emphasized that the South East has endured years of marginalization, but under President Tinubu, the narrative is changing. The region has witnessed massive federal appointments and unprecedented infrastructural projects, particularly in road construction and development, which, according to him, “must be appreciated and reciprocated.”
Umahi’s message was clear: Ebonyi and the entire South East will continue to stand firmly with President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru as they deliver progress, unity, and development to the people.
