Stakeholders in Ebonyi State have called on the Ikwo Noyo Amalgamated Market Traders Association to maintain unity and accommodate one another to succeed in their endeavors.

This call was made, Friday, during the union’s celebration of the New Yam Festival at the International Market in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Prof. Nwogo Obasi, Commissioner for Market Development and Parks, praised the Ikwo Noyo traders for coming together to celebrate as a union, noting that it would help them grow. He encouraged other clans to identify with their people, enabling them to reach out for government assistance when needed. “As a union, it’s easier for them to reach out to the government than individuals,” he said.

The former Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, represented by Okechukwu Nwakpu, urged the Ikwo traders to continue supporting the Ebonyi State government under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

He described the government as “well-to-do, favorable to Ikwo people and Ebonyi State in particular” and emphasized its focus on peace and people-oriented leadership.

The traders’ association chairman, John Okoro Onyechi, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to celebrate the festival and lauded Governor Nwifuru’s efforts in promoting peace in the state. He encouraged other clans to emulate the Ikwo people’s unity and cooperation, stating that the event would continue to promote peace in the state.

Other dignitaries, including Hon. Sinbad Oboke, Dr. Obisi Nweke, Mathew Odjor, and Mrs. Nnenna Otuonye, commended the Ikwo traders association for their show of unity and prayed for continued sustenance.

The celebration was marked by traditional music, masquerade parades, and cultural dances, highlighting the community’s deep connection to their cultural heritage.
