Gains Of The Recently Concluded 55Th National Conference Of The Nigerian Institute Of Building In Ebonyi State

Themed: “Advancing Builders’ Knowledge and Skills for Effective Enforcement of Building Regulatory Laws for Sustainable Development”, attendees to the 55th Conference/AGM of the Nigerian Institute of Building held in Abakaliki from 19 to 23rd August, 2025 in the city of Francis, comprised industry leaders, academics, regulators, policymakers, contractors, real estate developers, and building professionals from across Nigeria.

This marked Ebonyi State as the epicenter of a national dialogue on construction standards, professionalism, and sustainable building practices, courtesy of the visionary leadership of FON.

The event was not merely a routine AGM but a national professional convergence where issues of quality, regulation, and innovation in Nigeria’s building sector were discussed, with Ebonyi hosting as both convener and showcase.

The focus on enforcement of building laws underscored Nigeria’s urgent need to tackle building collapses and substandard construction, a timely move indeed.

Ebonyi’s hosting of the event enabled Governor Nwifuru to position the state as a regulatory vanguard, committed to safety, accountability, and sustainable development.

Conference attendees and participants toured and experienced firsthand the road networks, urban renewal projects, and civic infrastructure, VANCO, and ICT varsity that Ebonyi has invested in, as well as the practical demonstration of the People's Charter of Needs Agenda.

This direct exposure reinforced the state’s reputation as a worksite of modern infrastructure, not just a developing state on paper as witnessed in other climes.

The conference gathered contractors, financiers, insurers, and regulators in Abakaliki, creating opportunities for business conversations—a soft but crucial form of investment promotion, which were undoubtedly maximized.

Hosting such a professional body signals to investors that Ebonyi is safe, organized, and capable of convening national stakeholders.

The AGM's technical sessions, workshops, and paper presentations exposed Ebonyi professionals and students to cutting-edge practices in construction technology, quality assurance, and sustainable methods.

Students from Universities and Technical Institutes in the State benefited from exposure to new standards and professional networks from senior colleagues in the construction and built environment.

For several days, Abakaliki was trending in professional, policy, and national media cycles.

Coverages consistently mentioned Ebonyi, the Governor, and the state’s developmental strides—providing earned media visibility that money alone could not buy.

By securing and successfully hosting the NIOB conference, Governor Nwifuru has demonstrated that Ebonyi can organize high-profile national events, placing Abakaliki in the league of conference cities, attracting future events that extend visibility beyond Nigeria.

These are not just state projects, they become marketing collateral for investors and development partners.

The Governor’s speeches at the Conference highlighted both hard infrastructure—roads, hospitals, housing—and soft capital—education, training, regulation, and professionalism.

This balanced governance model appeals to international investors who want assurance that development is sustainable, not cosmetic.

The conference theme—sustainable development and regulatory enforcement—aligns with global development ideas.

By anchoring Ebonyi’s narrative to global development goals, Governor Nwifuru is directly positioning the state as a partner for international agencies, donor bodies, and foreign investors.

This also showcases Ebonyi as politically united and development-driven, projecting an image of stability—a factor global investors weigh heavily before committing capital.

These measures reinforce the visibility created by the conference—painting Ebonyi as investment-ready and globally conscious.

The 55th Annual Builders’ Conference in Abakaliki was more than a professional gathering; it was a strategic branding moment for Ebonyi State.

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru utilized the opportunity to spotlight Ebonyi’s infrastructure gains, showcase its readiness for investment, and align its governance narrative with global standards of sustainability and professionalism.

Owners and operators of Hospitality outfits in Abakaliki had good business and contributed significantly to the growth of Ebonyi Internally Generated Revenue.

The newly established Ebonyi Transport hailing service, EBOCAB, the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport Ezza, and other transportation outfits had good patronage as well, ensuring that Ebonyi got maximum returns during the event.

By combining conference diplomacy, infrastructure proof-of-work, and human-capital–focused governance, Nwifuru is creating global visibility and steadily placing Ebonyi on the world map—not as a peripheral player, but as a state ready to attract investors, host global actors, and participate in the 21st-century development conversation.

This is according to Dr. Boniface Nwankwo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Documentation.
