Enugu North LGA Inducts Over 130 Beneficiaries of Skill-Up Project

Enugu North Local Government Area, has held the official induction ceremony for participants of the Enugu North Skill-Up Project.

The training also reaffirmed the commitment of Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh-led administration to youth empowerment and human capital development.

According to reports, the free vocational training, which began in June 2025, was organised by Dr. Onoh's administration in partnership with the Potter's Wheel Foundation and Copen Academy, with the aim of equipping over 130 residents with practical skills in areas such as bricklaying, electrical installation, plumbing, tiling, baking, and other entrepreneurial trades to foster self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing the gathering, the Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, said the Skill-Up Project was designed to empower as many residents as possible, promising that more people would be trained in subsequent batches.

He stated that it is a grassroots adoption of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's-led state administration's approach of experiential learning and economic emancipation of the people.

He also commended the beneficiaries’ dedication and assured them of his continued support, while also praising Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for bringing out the roadmap by which his administration anchors his developmental projects and programs.

In his address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government on Strategy and Implementation, Hon. Chijioke Diogu, welcomed participants and partners to the programme.

He commended Dr. Onoh for initiating the programme, which he said has elevated the status of the beneficiaries from consumption to production, people that will help the economy of the Council as well as the state.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu North LG Chairman on WASH and Donor Relations, Mrs. Adaora Oji, urged beneficiaries to take the training seriously, stressing that the end goal is economic empowerment and independence.

Leaders of partnering organisations, as well as some of the beneficiaries, also shared testimonies on the impact of the initiative while also praising Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh and Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for providing such a rare opportunity to them.

They also assured that every investment made to see to the success of the programme will be rewarded with their utmost dedication to learn and also impact other lives.

However, the Copen Academy programme runs for six months, which includes three months of intensive training followed by three months of mentorship and field experience, while the Potter’s Wheel Foundation segment focuses on entrepreneurial skills and small-scale production such as baking of cakes, production of large- and small-scale detergents, amongst others.
