AUGUST MEETING; Speaker Odunwa Rolls Out Free MediCare For Rural Women

The Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, has enjoined the parishioners of St Anthony, Ndufu Echara, in Ikwo local Government Area, to enhance regular check-ups, so as to prevent potential health issues, and improve overall well-being. He stated this at the Parish during a free heath intervention program he organized for the Catholic Women Organization, in collaboration with Ebonyi State Ministry of health.

Speaker Odunwa, who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Theophilus Igwe, said that the medical intervention program was guided by passion to ensure that Women of St Anthony Parish enjoy healthy living, especially as they celebrate the 2025 August convention. He maintain that the intervention program was needed by the people, so as to promote good health, manage existing health conditions, and prevent diseases. He described High Blood Pressure as silent killer, and implored the women to enhance frequent check-ups.

"This health intervention program is needed by the people. Sometimes, we hear sad stories that someone slept at night and was unable to wake up in the morning, or that someone is just on his own and unexpectedly collapsed. Such ugly incidence are usually followed by so many unverified stories. But the truth is that, most of those things are as a result of High Blood Pressure. So, let me encourage our women, the entire members of the Catholic Women Organization, St Anthony Parrish, to enhance regular check-ups, so as to reduce healthcare costs, prevent potential health issues, improve health outcomes, and enhance quality of life."

Chief Odunwa lauded the State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and Wife, Chief Mrs Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru for their notable achievements at the health sector, adding that the health intervention program was also his way of complimenting their efforts, and enjoined the parishioners of St Anthony, Ndufu Echara, to remain Peace ambassadors, and also,  uphold commitment in supporting the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Earlier, the Assistant State Immunization Officer, and Desk Officer, Baby Shower Initiative, Mrs Aloh Ngozi, commended the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Odunwa for sponsoring the health intervention program, and emphasized the dangers of High Blood Pressure and malnutrition, and implored the women to always access heath care facilities.

The President of the Catholic Women Organization, St Anthony Parish, Mrs Nwode Veronica, conveyed gratitude to the Speaker, Chief Moses Odunwa for the Heath Intervention Program, and prayed for God's blessings upon him.

"Let me commend his efforts. He championed this free medication to the mothers. I'm very grateful. I feel the impact. He will never regret coming here. He will continue to be blessed. Tell him that our morhers are happy. Our mothers are grateful."

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Eze Favour, and Mrs Josephine Nwanewor thanked Chief Odunwa for the humanitarian disposition, and prayed that God will keep blessing him.

The event featured free diagnosis and treatment, free immunization for under 1 year old, Baby shower free gifts, free referrals among others.
