The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has rewarded Abakaliki Football Club, popularly known as "De Rice Boys," with a gift of N48 million. Each of the players will receive N1 million as a token of appreciation for their remarkable performance.
The Governor made the announcement when he received the team at his office in Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki. He commended the players and officials for their enthusiasm and resilience, noting that he watched the match live and was impressed by their aggressive play.
Governor Nwifuru also praised the team's anthem and encouraged the players to stay focused despite challenges and difficulties. He acknowledged the coaches' efforts and advised them to give players equal opportunities to play and make themselves marketable.
His Excellency promise to return team back to Nigerian National league NNL football next season also allow their salary run till October and be review by November 2025.
The team's representative, Mr. Cyril Timothy, thanked the Governor for his goodwill and fatherly care towards the club, promising that the team would live up to expectations.
The Governor's gesture is seen as a boost to the team's morale and a demonstration of his commitment to promoting sports development in Ebonyi State.
