Ebonyi First Lady Commissions BERWO Foundation Widows’ Housing Project At Ameka, Ezza South LGA

Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Mary‑Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, First Lady of Ebonyi State, has officially commissioned a housing project dedicated to widow in Obuchie Amajim Ameka Village, Ezza South Local Government Area. Delivered under the auspices of the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO), the initiative marks another milestone in the First Lady’s enduring efforts to support vulnerable women across the state.

The project which  is a  three‑bedroom flat is  constructed to provide safe, dignified accommodation for a selected widow in Ezza South. The commissioning culminated months of planning, community engagement, and collaboration between BERWO, Ebonyi state ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and development partners, reflecting a concerted drive toward social welfare and sustainable empowerment.
In her address, the First Lady emphasized the moral and civic importance of caring for widows:

“Today, we stand not just on bricks and mortar but on love, compassion and shared humanity. This home stand as an enduring testament to our commitment to those who have lost so much yet remain pillars of strength in our communities.”
This housing project is a continuation of BERWO Foundation’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of rural women.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Hon Francis Ori, appreciated the First Lady for her compassionate commitment to the wellbeing of the women, he stated that he derived joy from the project for further commended the contractors and BERWO for making the project a reality

The beneficiary Mrs Nwuka Nike Nwankwo, who could not hold her joy thanked the First Lady for remembering her in her old age. She prayed for God’s protection and guidance upon the First Lady and family.
