Ebonyi Commissoner Tasks Contractors On Timely Completion Of Classroom Projects

The Commissioner for Education,
(primarily and Secondary) in Ebonyi State, Dr Donatus Ilang, has tasked the contractors handling the 22 Classrooms Blocks signature project of the state government to ensure its speedy and timely completion.

The Commissioner gave the charge  during a meeting with the contractors in his office, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, on Monday. He  noted the strategic importance, the Governor placed on the project and enjoined them to return to site immediately in order to meet the governor's desire of commissioning the project in the next two months.
Dr Ilang revealed that it was due to the priority the governor placed on Education that propelled him to embark on the project which is meant to uplift the infrastructural facelift of primary and secondary School across the state.

He directed the contractors whose project has reached parapet level to come to the ministry and process the payment of 20% increment of the contract sum as earlier approved by the Governor to enable them finish the work.
"This project is very important and essential to the state because, it's in line with our governor's vision of uplifting our basic Education system to international standard. This is where we train our children on the basic Education level. We urge you to return to site and continue with the project. We've noted your concerns.
"We've visited some of these sites. We've seen the stages some of these projects are, leaving them at that stage is what the state government will not do, we believe, with this meeting, something different will happen.

"The state government will continue do her part which is to enhance the funding. I urge you to go back to site and ensure that the project is completed at a record time".
Earlier, the Chairman of the Contractors, Prince Uche Aliega enumarated some of the challenges hampering the completion of the project to include, finance, topography and variation in Price and urged Government to make fund available for them to complete the project at record time, adding that  some of them has borrowed  #15 -#25million to get  to the stages they are right now.

On her part, the permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Mary Otozi expressed optimism that if all things being equal, the project will be completed and commissoned within the next two months as planned by the.  She called on the contractors to come to ministry and process the fund approved for them.
