DUN Foundation Organizes Novelty March For Umahi @ 62 As Orange, Blue Team Play Goalless Draw

A novelty football match organized in honour of the Federal Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, as part of activities marking his 62nd birthday, ended in a goalless draw between the Orange Team and the Blue Team. 

The event took place at the King David Estate Pitch, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital on Friday.

Speaking the celebrant, Engr. David Umahi commended the DUN Divine Foundation for organizing the event stating that the novelty match has served as an opportunity to showcase talent while fostering unity.
The minister represented by the, Mr Austin Umahi described the novelty match as a unique initiative that brought together former appointees of the former governor in a display of unity and gratitude.

"I truly appreciate this innovative gesture. It’s not just a match—it’s a symbol of unity, respect, and continued support for the ideals of Engr. David Umahi. I urge you all to keep up the good work and remain committed to the path of unity laid by the founder of DUN Divine Foundation," Austin said.

He emphasized that the initiative reflects the values of the celebrant, who remains a staunch advocate for peace and unity in Ebonyi State.
"You have shown that your efforts are beyond politics. Let us continue to follow the path of the master. If he says A, don’t do B—follow faithfully. We built this house together, and no man destroys a house he helped build," he added.

Austin also urged the leadership of the DUN Divine Foundation to lift the embargo on new membership, stressing that the group serves as a unifying platform, despite previous misconceptions.

Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Cletus Ofoke, noted that the event was a gesture of appreciation for the former governor’s legacy of inclusive leadership. He described the match as a symbol of energy, support, and goodwill.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Richard Idike, praised the teams and reiterated the importance of sports in promoting unity and wellbeing.
Highlights of the event included remarks from notable personalities such as the Member representing Ohaukwu/Ebonyi Federal Constituency and donor of the trophy, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze; the Executive Chairman of Edda LGA, Mr. Ekuma Nkama; and former media aide to the minister, Mr. Francis Nwaze. They all paid glowing tributes to Engr. Umahi, describing him as a mentor and transformational leader.

Mr. Darlington Okereke was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance during the game.

The day’s events concluded with a humanitarian visit to the Nigeria Red Cross Society Motherless Baby Home, where members of the DUN Divine Foundation donated various gift items to the children.
