Ebonyi State Government says, strategic measure are been put in place towards addressing the housing deficit in the state.
Engr Francis Ori, Commissioner for Housing and Urban development,. revealed this to our reporter in his office, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, the state capital.
The Commissoner said that part of the measures are building of housing units in different parts of the State. He noted further that the State Government is equally collaborating with Federal Government in ensuring that the Housing need of the people is actualized.
Engr Francis Ori, emphasized that most of the project are in it's various stages of completion and expressed confidence that when completed, it will go a long way in addressing the housing deficit in the state.
The Commissoner enumarated some of the ongoing housing estates in the state to include, Izzo and Ameze 140 units of 3befroom housing Estate, 140units of 4befroom duplexes for Public and civil servants in the state,
250 Units of 1bedroom, 2bedroom and 3bedroom renewed Hope Housing Estate being supervised by the ministry among other housing intervention and remodelling projects.
He lauded Governor Francis Nwifuru for placing premium priority on the housing need of the people, stressing that when the housing estates are fully completed, it will bridge the gap in the housing deficit in Ebonyi.
The said, "So far, in the ministry of Housing and Urban Development, we have done a lot of projects, most specific is Izzo and Ameze. That project is 3bedroom bungalow of 140 units. The Izzo people have 70 units while Ameze have 70 units.. like I used to say, the governor in his ingenuity initiated that project to cushion the effect of the Communal crises between Izzo and Ameze people and the project will help in the resettlement of the people of Izzo and Ameze autonomous communities.
"The ministry have also embarked on other projects like Ebonyi State public and civil servant housing estate. It is 4bedroom duplexes of 140units just opposite Chiboy, and that's a very significant project of this ministry and it stands to correct a lot of things in housing sector, the deficit of housing sector,. Because, when that project is completed, a lot of Ebonyians are going to move in there, thereby reducing the effect of housing deficit in the state. We have other projects like the remodelling and renovation of late Dr Christopher Ogbonna Onu, the former minister of science and technology. Before his burial the ministry moved in, on the approval of His Excellency, the Governor, moved in into his hometown, uburu and did a very serious remodelling and renovation of the whole of the eight buildings in the compound and it was a wonderful project completed.
"We have other projects in the ministry, minor remodelling here and there and also in partnership with the federal ministry of Housing and Urban development, Ebonyi State Government is suppervsing the renewed Hope Housing Estate and it is already going on. 250 units of 1bedroom , 100 units of 2bedroom and 3, bedroom, a total of 250 Units. The estate is ongoing at Ezza North. The project is going on well. The internal roads is completed. Some of the social amenities like water, light, installation are ongoing.
"The ministry of housing and Urban development is also doing well in the area of synergy with other ministries helping the government to move forward. And also in the next couple of months, we're going into other mega projects in the state. You're aware that the government in his wisdom has approved the completion of the 10 Storey Ebonyi world trade center. The project is under the ministry of Housing and EXCO Committed is working through the ministry of Housing and Urban development to see that it is completed.
"We also have the project that will change the narrative. That project is the Nnodo Ekumenyi Palm Boulevards. The project is going to be one of the best of estate. It is going to have 75 units of 5bedroom duplexes, 45 units of 4bedroom duplexes and about 45units of 3bedroom duplexes. The estate is located at old meat market by Hossanna park, as we speak, work has commenced . We are optimistic that within the next year most of these might have been completed.
"The state Government in partnership with BERWO Foundation has completed 26 units of 3bedroom duplexes, 2 per Local Government Area for widows. The project have been nearly complete",he concluded.
