Nwuruku, who was the member of the House of Assembly that represented Ikwo North State constituency between 2015-2023, was before a Chieftain of the opposition people's Democratic party. He recontested for the state House Assembly for the third time in 2023 but lost to his opponent of the All progressives Congress APC, Mr Ifeanyi Nwakpu.
in an exclusive Interview with Celestine Chidi Okeh, Humphrey Nwuruku beared his mind on his recent defection from the people's Democratic party PDP to the All progressives Congress APC, reasons for his actions and why he is not regretting leaving PDP. He equally talked about his interest in APC and other issues.
Good morning sir. May we meet you?
My name is Hon. Engr Humphrey Nwuruku, the member that represented Ilwo North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly. I was also the Chief Whip of the House of Assembly. Between 2015 to 2019, I was a member and between 2019 to 2023 as the chief Whip.
Precisely on Tuesday, 13 of May, 2025, you officially joined the rulling All progressives Congress APC, why did you join APC?
I joined the All progressives Congress APC on Tuesday, being 13th of May, 2025 because of the peaceful nature of the state Governor, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru. His unwavering commitment to the restoration of peace in all nooks and crannies of Ebonyi state and his infrastructural Development in the state, are some of the reasons why I join the APC.
Why did you leave PDP despite your huge investment, especially in 2023 election
Well Bible says when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice. People are rejoicing in the state because of our dear Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. I left PDP because in the national, there's crises and even in the state, there's crises. Everybody know that in the entire Alike where I come from, PDP won in 2023 general election in governorship, infact, the entire Ikwo North voted for PDP. I left the party I worked for because of crises. I have joined the APC to support the Governor, and my promise to him is that what he saw in 2023 , he will not see it again because of us and our supporters. We will join hands with the members of APC to ensure that he win in all the ten wards in Ikwo North, and by the grace of God, the entire Ikwo come 2027.
How do intend to manage the political apprehension your entrance in APC may create?
My interest is the reelection of Governor Francis Nwifuru. People that joined on us Wednesday during our defection wete more than eight thousand.(8,000) followers of PDP. We're not joining because of our personal interest but because of our Governor and we will work with the governor. Anywhere the governor said we will go, that's where we will go. Yes, politicians need to be apprehensive of our coming in, but they should know that if you're supporting the governor, we should work together so that it will be easy in 2027. It was so hard for them to win in 2023. So for us coming in, they should be happy that we will make things easy for them. Like in Enyibichiri were I come from, PDP won the 26 polling units and entire Alike. We had prominent leaders in Alike then in Government but we have the masses. They should be happy we're joining to support the Governor. Our personal interest should be put aside for now. The interest I have now is for Governor to be reelected and let us be part of it. We should not be talking of personal interest, it should be kept aside. If Governor say this is where we are going, myself and my team will join him. If he said Mr A is going, our team will support the person. So, my interest is kept aside, and people that are fidgeting that we're coming should relax, except they are not supporting His Excellency, the governor, that's when they should be afraid.
Do you have any regrets leaving PDP?
I have no regrets because the governor is doing well and am joining him to do more. So, I don't have any regrets, we have collapsed PDP in entire Ikwo. PDP will not record up to 4% or 5% in the next election. You watch it. The assurance I want to give to APC is that, 2027 Ikwo will come either first or second. Ikwo and Izzi will be competing. That's my assurance to APC and the governor.
How is your relationship with Governor?
My relationship with the governor is still intact. We interact cordially. He is very friendly. I must give it to him, he is a good man. He is a kind hearted man and that is one of the reasons I'm supporting him and his Government.
What is your message to your teaming supporters?
My message to my supporters is that they should join hands with the people already in APC for the progress of APC and for the progress of the Governor who has been doing very well in all parts of the state. I am encouraging them to team up with existing leadera of APC to ensure that 2027 is hitch free.
