Ogah Calls For Incorporation Of Optometrists And Optical Registration Board In Budget

The member representing Ikwo/ Ezza-South Federal Constituency, Hon.Chinedu Ogah, at the weekend  called on the federal government to incorporate the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticals Registration Board into budget during the appropriation bill. 

Ogah made this known to the public in his address during the 2025 Eye Ball Summit organized by the Optometrist and Dispensing Opticals Registration Board held at the Yar'Adua Center in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. 

The ranking Federal lawmaker who doubles as the Chairman House Committee on Reformatory Institutions who represented Hon. Regina Akume, Member representing Gboko/ Tarka Federal Constituency of Benue State and Chairman on National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), commended the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate and the association for sustaining the association and boosting the health sector.

He stressed that the association would achieve more and also help in boosting the economy and curtailing unemployment in the country if the summit is zoned to other parts of the country. 

"This board is key to life, a key to access and a key to everything. If you don't have vision, you cannot achieve anything "

He charged the organization to look inward and generate grants and extend hands in the hinterland especially those in the rural areas and ensure the presence of the organization is felt in those areas. 

Ogah called on the federal government to increase the budget line of the board during the appropriation bill to ensure sustainability and 

He equally called on the registrar of the board to think towards the rotation of the summit to other geographical zones of the country.

"If you need any assistance, approach us because many of us have seen what you are doing and we are very much interested "

He commended the Minister for creating awareness in the Optometrist and Dispensing Opticals Registration Board of Nigeria and ensuring that the organization is at its best. 

The Summit had the presence of the Federal Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Rt . Hon.(Comrade) Chinedu Ogah OON, Chairman House Committee of Reformatory Institutions, Federal House of Representatives, representatives of different organizations, including; United Organization, Standard Organization, World Health Organization, amongst others.
