Ezza North, South Council Bosses Urged To Resign Over Insecurity, Incompetence

From Kelechi Nwafor, Onueke

The return of insecurity at Onueke and the neighbouring communities that has continued to result to the senseless and gruesome killing of our youths within the area needs urgent, proactive and patriotic actions of the relevant authorities saddled with the responsibility of securing the lives and property of the people of Ezza North and South.

Globally, the primary responsibility of every government at all levels is the protection of the lives and property of the citizens, unfortunately it seems to be different in Ezza North and South as no known action or step has been seen to have been taken by the Chief Executives of the two Local Government Areas to nip in the board the dastardly acts of the apostles of doom.

Recall that within the Xmas period, there was serious security issues at Onueke that claimed many lives, just about two months, many lives were lost in Oriuzor, the neighbouring community to insecurity and youths restiveness. Now, Onueke is boiling again and a no go area as at the time of filing in this report, and news coming out from the area has it that more lives have been lost. With these recurrent cases of insecurity and the resultant loss of lives without any efforts or solution to it by the two Chairmen that govern the area, tongues have started wagging doubting their capacity to maintain law and order in the area as the Chief security officers of the two Local Government Areas.

A leader or a Chief Executive that lacks the capacity to guarantee the safety of the lives and property of the citizenry has no business being in leadership, and should either brace up to the responsibility or step aside for the overall interest of the people. Investigations have revealed that as at the time of filing in this report, no arrest have been made by the two Chirmen since Xmas period it started, and there's no concrete security measures that have been taken to arrest the situation and forestall further occurrences.

People in the area interviewed, lamented in frustration that the Chairmen are not doing anything to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly acts to book. They said that the Chairmen have failed them, and should make way for those who have the capacity to return peace to the area to come to their rescue. In their words "We're not asking for much, all we need is a peaceful atmosphere that guarantees us the safety of our lives and property. We're not lazy people, all we need is peace to do our businesses here at Eke Imoha and go to our farms, with that we can take care of our needs and families. They begged the state government to come to their rescue as it is obvious that the two Chirmen have been overwhelmed and lack ideas on how to put an end to the senseless and gruesome killings in the area" they concluded.
