Ebonyi First Lady Decorated Climate Change Ambassador

The wife of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi state, Chief Mrs Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru has been decorated as Climate Change Ambassador. 

Chief Mrs. Nwifuru was decorated by the Michigan State University and USAID at the Climate and Agriculture Policy Framework Workshop held at Cirene Hotel, Abakaliki.

Receiving the award, Mrs Nwifuru expressed gratitude for the honour and appointed the 13 LGA Chairpersons as ‘Climate Change Amazons of Ebonyi state’, to ensure that she succeeds in supporting the drive to secure sustainable agriculture production in Ebonyi State.

The first lady stated that Ebonyi state is the only state in Southeast Nigeria to have a policy framework on climate change, the Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan for the Agriculture Sector in Ebonyi State and the Climate Smart Agriculture Profile, which are instruments that positions Ebonyi State to join the Federal Government of Nigeria in delivering on its global commitment to Climate Change Mitigation.

Mrs Nwifuru appreciated Michigan State University and USAID for working with Ebonyi state Government to achieve these robust policies in the state and the commitment of Ebonyi state about Climate Change and Agriculture remains unshaken.

Speaking on the overview of the event, Prof Oyinkan Taise from Michigan State University USA, appreciated the First Lady for being part of the event and also the effort of Ebonyi state government on Climate Change and agriculture. He explained that the event was to ensure a smooth follow-up on the implementation of policy document on climate change in Ebonyi state. 

The event had the representative of Federal Ministry of Agriculture, USAID, and other representatives of state government and delegates of the conference present.
