Afikpo North Council Chair Tasks Security C'ttee On Diligence At Inauguration

As the Yuletide season beckons and Chief Security Officers in their various domains are strengthening conventional and non-conventional security apparatus to ensure a crime free Yuletide, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North LGA who is the Chief Security Officer in the area has to put in place a more strategic plan for effective protection of lives and property in Afikpo North by  inaugurating a Peace and Security Committee with a charge to members to be resilient in the fight against crimes and criminalities.

Hon. Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam conducted this inauguration on Sunday, 20th November, 2022 at Afikpo North Council Hall with Traditional Rulers; Security Chiefs, Development Centre Co-ordinators, Chairman of CAN, Chairman of Hausa Community and the Bishop of Gospel Friends Assembly, Bishop Ken O Daniels as members of the Committee.
Reaffirming his administration's commitment to adequate Security in  Afikpo, the Afikpo North Council Boss commended Security Agencies for their collaboration and co-operation in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere and a near crime free environment in the LGA; and encouraged them to sustain the tempo!

He equally implored members of the general public to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious movements of person (s) in their localities to Security Agencies, explaining that Security Agencies are not  magicians; hence their effectiveness and gallantry must be anchored on intelligence gathering methodology for which members of the public are their veritable fulcrums.

Hon. Ibiam who doubles as Chairman of the Peace and Security Committee assured members of the Committee of regular meetings, adding that Committee members should constantly come up with recommendations that will enable Security Agencies achieve remarkable successes in the fight against crimes in the LGA as all contributions and recommendations would be welcomed.
Security Agents who responded included the Area Commander,NPF, ACP Stanley Egbo, the Unit Commander,FRSC, ACC Monday Okoro; Area Commander,NDLEA, ACN Banji Desmond  and the DPO of Afikpo Division,CSP Owashi Ajino. They unanimously applauded the Council Boss for his proactivity towards nipping crime in the bud at the grassroot and assured him of their committed stance against crime in all its ugly ramifications and manifestations in Afikpo North in line with their official mandates.

The Security Heads also used the opportunity to call on all Stakeholders of the Area; as well as members of the public that their identity would be protected in event of information, leading to the arrest of criminal suspects and should therefore not be afraid to avail information on the movement and hideouts of suspected criminal elements.

Baring their mind, the Five Development Centre Co-ordinators; Hon. Baron Enya(Amasiri); Surv. Theodore Ihite(Amoha); Hon. Ibiam Inya Agha (Afikpo North); Hon. Innocent Inya Eluu (Afikpo North East) and Apostle Peter Uduma Nwachi (Ubeyi); noted that it has become very imperative that all hands must be on deck to accomplish a near crime free Afikpo North LGA. They also extolled the Executive Chairman for his leadership ingenuity which he has brought to bear in almost all aspects of his administration of the LGA since he came to power.

They further called on residents in their various Development Centres to join hands with the Local Government to ensure a safe environment where all the inalienable rights of every citizen as enshrined in the Constitution are guaranteed and law breakers made to face the full wrath of the Law.

After the inauguration,  Committee Members had their maiden sitting (meeting)  where far reaching decisions were made.

Some of the decisions taken included, but not limited to

a. Effective patrol in all parts of the Council Area especially along Akpoha/Abomege Road.

b. Thorough check on movement into Afikpo.

c. Effective policing of water ways as well as other entrance/ exit points in the Area.

d. Proper identification/profiling of Okada riders. 

e. Full enforcement of various Executive Orders of Ebonyi State Government and 

f. Aggressive sensitization of the youths on harmful effects of hard drugs. 

The Meeting finally ended with assurances from Heads of Security Agencies in Afikpo North of their untiring commitment for sustained peace, harmony and progress of the Area.
