A pro democracy youth group; Ebonyi Youth for Democracy has called on the State Governor, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi to reward his Deputy's loyalty, solidarity and support to his government with the Senatorial ticket of his party the APC.
In a press release signed by the State Coordinator of the group, Comrade Ogobuchi Igwe, Ebonyi Youths for democracy noted that the Deputy Governor has shown great commitment, loyalty and support to Governor Umahi's administration, hence the need for the governor and stakeholders of the party to against all odds, reward the Deputy Governor with the ticket of Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone.
"This press release is coming on the hills of the latest developments and political twisting in Ebonyi Central zone, where the Deputy Governor seems to have been skimmed out of the zoning arrangements for elective positions in the zone. We view such moves and the recent communique which alleged that the senatorial slot has been given out of the Deputy Governor's Local Government Area as counter productive for the ruling party and a move that presents the Governor in a negative light.
"We wonder why our dear Governor who is aspiring to go higher will not support or do same for his loyal and dependable Deputy who has shown commitment and trust to his government to also go higher. We wish to State that the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe deserves to go to Senate and should be supported by his boss the Governor, and all stakeholders of Ebonyi Central zone.
"Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe has shown character and Leadership qualities that makes him the best person to represent Ebonyi Central zone at the Senate come 2023. As youth organization, we wish to call on the Deputy Governor to declare for the seat, go for the party's nomination and interest form and count on us to mobilize support for him across partyline.
"It is time for Governor Umahi to walk his talk by encouraging equity, merit and loyalty. The people of the zone are yearning for Barr Eric Kelechi Igwe to represent them at the Senate, and in the spirit of democracy and and respect for the voice of the masses, all concerned should give support to the call for Ebonyi State Deputy Governor to declare interest to represent Ebonyi Central zone at the Senate come 2023. We shall follow up this call with advocacy visits, consultations, lobbying and peaceful protest to achieve our aims". the Coordinator stated
The group made up of young professionals, students and other class of youths said their mission is to encourage youths participation in politics and to promote democracy, equity and fairness at all levels of governance.
