Ebonyi State Commissioner  for
Trade and Investment, Barr. Chioma Nweze, have said, the Ebonyi State International Airport upon completion, will turn the state into Economic hub of the South East.

In a Statement made available to Journalist in Abakaliki, Barr. Nweze noted that Governor David Umahi's promise of bequeathing the state with an International Airport, did not just come to fruition, but have also come to uplift the Economic Profile and fortune of the state.

Nweze said, "When Governor Umahi made an audacious promise to bequeath an international standard Airport to Ebonyi people before the end of his administration few years ago, it was variously dismissed by some cynics as one of the fantasies of Nigerians politicians.

"Being determined to uplift Ebonyi to the envy of sister States in the Federation, Governor Umahi was undaunted by the cacophonous tunes of his detractors and religiously went about hatching the promise to concrete reality.

"Today, the Ebonyi International Airport, situated at Ezza land along the Abakaliki-Afikpo road is at the verge of becoming a reality more than a mere fallacy.

"The Airport landmass measuring over 8 square metres is beehive of activities with work massively ongoing in a bid to meet up the target of commencement of flight operations as soon as possible.

"The colossal edifice which has  space for administrative operations of the airport, sit-out for arrivals and departures, Immigration, Police, Fire Service as well as other critical flight operations is progressing at geometric rate and in fabulous eminence.

"The quality of the ongoing construction is second to none and represents the unprecedented hunger for delivery of quality legacies to Ebonyi people.

"The road leading to the airport from the Abakaliki-Afikpo road is already completed on eight inches rigid pavement with state of the art street light lined up to provide adequate illumination even at night.

"Along the road leading to the Airport from the Abakaliki-Afikpo road is an ongoing construction of a multi span flyover meant to ease flow of traffic at the airport junction when flight operation finally commences.

"Work on the airport runway is equally currently at palpable status  in readiness for final asphalting of the routes cast on 14 inches concrete pavement.

"The gate house has a magnificent Umahi trademark finishing that provides succinctly the full superlative features of an ultramodern Airport of international standard.

"The terminal has the quality to rank among the best among other Cargo and International Airports in Nigeria and beyond.

"With Governor Umahi still assuring Ebonyians that the first plane must land in the Airport before the end of year 2022, Ebonyians are passionately on tenterhooks of the innumerable benefits accruable from hosting the state of the art Airport.

"This will in turn perk up the fiscal feasibility of the host Community and Ebonyi State in general.

"The transport sector would particularly receive huge boost as operators would be availed of countless commuters jostling for their services to catch up with their flights all day long; the ripple effect of which would in turn boost the State’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

"By so doing, Ebonyi will witness influx of people from all walks of life particularly foreign investors who may want to invest in the State due to the viable peaceful environment already put in place by the Governor David Nweze Umahi administration in the State.

"No doubt, the emerging Ebonyi International Airport would place Ebonyi in a glorious economic profile when flight operations finally resumes before the end of the year".
