FGM No Longer Operational In Ivo Communities -- Royal Father

Practice of female genital mutilation has become a past events  in the five Autonomous Communities of Ivo Local Government Area.

Ivo  is one of  the Local  Government  Area, that made up the 13  Local  Government Areas in  Ebonyi  State, and has not been left behind in the Global  Campaign periodically, organized  by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Enugu Field Office in Collaboration with Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) which the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Her Excellencey,  Chief  Rachel Umahi officially, flagged off in  2015 in the  State.

Interacting with  the Community Leaders in Ivo Local Government Council  on the progress made so far in the sensitization exercise to end Female Genital mutilation in the Area, and the people Compliance, and efforts in puting  to an end FGM programs in the area.

The Chairman Ivo traditional Leaders council, and the Agu 111 of Isi Agu Autonomous Community. HRH.Eze Moses Ngele, while Interacting with Newsmen in his Palace  said,  FGM In Ivo Local Government has become a thing of the past in the five Autonomous in the Local Government Area, stressing that when the campaign against FGM was flag off in the State by her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Richeal  Umahi.   

He Called on all Traditional  rulers and Stakeholders to Organized monitoring Committee in all the five Autonomous Communities, where he mandated that any body found involving in the Illegal practice will be severely punished. With collaborative

 effort of his Cabinet, and the members of the Communities FGM was brought to an end in the area.

The woman Leader of Akanu in Amagu  Ishiagu Autonomous Community, Mrs Veronica Afudike, on her part said that she organised house to house compaign, had meeting with all the female nurses in  deferent  hospitals and Clinics in those Community, She  also set up a committee who will be following up every pregnant women in Communities, till the day of delivery, If given birth to a female child, the Committee shall continue  till a period, which has became a continuous exercise in the area.

Other traditional rulers who spoke with our reporter Includes, 

HRH Eze Gabriel  Okoro.the  Odu 2  of Ihie Autonomous Community. 

HRH. Lawrence Orji Chukwu .the Abina 1 of Okue Autonomous Community attest to the fact that FGM practice has been totally, eradicated in the community.
