Ebonyi Commissioners, Perm Secs, Others Speak on Gains of USAID State2State Leadership, Mgt Training

Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, State Auditor- General and other participants have described as valuable and impactful the 3-day Leadership and Management training for top government officials of Ebonyi State organized by the USAID State2State Activity.

Speaking on the gains of the training held from Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th April, 2022 at Nike Lake Resort Enugu, six of the Commissioners and other participants at the training said it was timely and impactful. 
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Stephen Odoh commended USAID State2State for the training and said they were prepared to implement the knowledge gained at the training in the development plan of Ebonyi State. He explained that USAID State2State remains a worthy partner in the development and governance reform of Ebonyi State. 

"Since the inception of USAID State2State Activity in Ebonyi State, we have through their various programs and activities achieved a lot. They have assisted us in both capacity building, public financial management, procurement, IGR improvement, conflict management, production of a 25-year State Development Plan (SDP) and   technical support in basic education, primary health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
"Currently, they are helping government to aggregate the views and development need of communities in Ebonyi State to reflect the aspirations of Ebonyians in the SDP and to ensure inclusiveness in government budget and programs."
The State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Orlando Nweze, applauded the complementary role of USAID State2State in the development project of Ebonyi State. He noted that State2State has been helpful in the planning, preparation and implementation of the state budget, improved process of IGR collection and other technical support that have made the work of the Ministry of Finance easier and more professional.
"With the partnership and technical support of USAID State2State, Ebonyi State government and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in particular is now more effective and transparent in the discharge of our responsibilities to government and to the people of the State.

"This training is another added advantage to us as MDAs, Commissioners and heads of government agencies to further improve on our knowledge of leadership and management".
Also speaking, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, stressed that the training exposed participants to different models of leadership and best approaches to handling issues, development plans and productivity in work place.

"Training and retraining is an integral part of leadership. These three days of leadership and management training organized by USAID State2State is a welcome development, especially with the choice of a serene environment here in Enugu away from Ebonyi State. It gave room for concentration and has helped to bring out the best from the participants".
Others including the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Donatus Njoku, Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Chinwe Okah as well as the State Aduitor General, Dr. U.S.A. Udu and others all noted that the training was impactful and should be made a regular exercise.

Permanent secretaries including Mrs. Patricia Okiri, Dr. Ritamary Okoro, Elder Sunday Okike, and Mrs. Blessing Ezeoke thanked USAID State2State for the opportunity given them to learn modern ways of leadership and management, especially in the public and civil service. They promised to replicate the knowledge gained at the training in the discharge of their duties.

 In his closing remarks, the USAID State2State Team Lead, Dr. (Barr.) Sam Onyia, thanked all the participants for their effective participation in the training workshops and urged them to fully utilize the knowledge and skills that they gathered from the training to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery in their various MDAs. He also thanked the Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, for his continued support to the USAID State2State Activity in the state.
