Ebonyi G64 Rejects FHC Judgement ; Affirms Support For Gov Umahi

By Celestine Okeh

Forum of Coordinators of Development Centers in Ebonyi state on Tuesday, rejected the judicial pronouncement that purportedly ordered the removal of Governor David Umahi and his Deputy, Barr Kelechi Igwe from office, on ground of their defection from the People's Democratic party PDP to the All Progressives Congress APC.

In a press statement jointly signed by the forum Chairman, Hon. Beatrice Eze and the publicity secretary Hon. John Ogodo, reads;

"We the 64 Coordinators of Development Centres in Ebonyi State wish to unequivocally condemn the sack pronouncement by Justice Ekwo on our  pragmatic leader, quintessential Governor and grandmaster of Infrastructure and his Deputy is the heights of judicial recklessness  which must be condemned by all and sundry even as we are confident in the impartiality of the Judiciary, the reason for which the said judgement has been appropriately appealed, again proving that  Gov. Umahi is an addent respecter of the law and legal frameworks.

"It is surprising and shocking that Justice Ekwo in his ruling ordered that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) should proceed to submit to INEC, names of people who never stood for elections to be Governor and Deputy respectively in place of a duly elected Governor and his Deputy, the reason for which we call on the Appeal Court to immediately rise to protect the sanctity of our constitution by upturning Ekwo's judgement and thus avert the danger this sorry judgement is capable of imposing on the Nigeria's hard-earned democracy except Governors and Deputies now emerge through appointments, which is an impossibility.

"We want to categorically state that Gov. Umahi is our Governor till 2023 as his defection to APC has  not offended any portion or section of the Constitution or extant laws.
Your Excellency, your party is our party, your next move, your glorious and triumphant entry into Aso Rock come 2023 is our collective mission which must  be accomplished and this distraction from the enemies of the 'New Ebonyi State' which you birthed and nurtured will certainly not hold water but will end in praise as their move to get enthroned into the seat of power is an evidence of their disconnection with the grassroot.

"Your Excellency, you have given Ebonyi a new song through your people oriented polices and programmes, evident in your giant developmental strides for which our unflinching support has come to stay with you as we can't afford to "sing the Lord's song in a strange land" as Justice Ekwo tried luring us to do.

 "We wont forget to very immensely commend and salute the courage of all well meaning Nigerians who spoke out without reservations in the face of this Injustice, knowing that Injustice for one is Injustice for all. We assure these set of patriotic Nigerians that this honor and sense of nobility done by speaking out won't be abused. The State High Court, Abakaliki is not left out in our show of gratitude for standing tall in Justice to order that our Hero of democracy and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. (Dr.) David Nweze Umahi and his Deputy remains on seat even in the face of a seemingly show of desperation and travesty of Justice by a 'Court of Cordinate  Jurisdiction (Federal High Court, Abuja)".
