Forum of LG NAESS Presidents Warns Against Undue Interference In NAESS Leadership

Forum of former NAESS Presidents from the 13 Local Government Areas of the state has condemned in its strongest terms the unilateral constitution of Caretaker Leadership by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Hon. Gideon Onwe, describing his actions as not only frivolous but also unconstitutional.

This was contained in a communique raised after the meeting of the group held at Grand Arena, in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The communique reads in full:

"A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY MEETING OF ALL THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNDERGRADUATE PRESIDENTS AND WELL-MEANING EBONYI STATE STUDENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS HELD ON 2ND OF MARCH 2022 AT GRAND ARENA, MILE50 ABAKALIKI.

"The National Association of Ebonyi State Students (NAESS) under the leadership of the Forum of Local Government Undergraduate Presidents in an extraordinary emergency meeting held on this day the 2nd of March, 2022 resolved as follows:

"That the leadership of the association remains the responsibility/obligation of the Forum of Local Government Undergraduates Presidents made up of Presidents of the undergraduate Associations of the 13 local governments in Ebonyi State.
This is in line with the provisions of the constitution of NAESS which states in section 4, subsection 2a.
“that the forum of Local Government Presidents shall serve as the highest decision making body of association for the period between the end of the tenure of one National Executive council to the beginning of another, or in the events of dissolution of the National Executive Council.”

"That the publication making rounds, credited to the SA to Governor Hon. Gideon Onwe who claims to have singlehandedly constituted a caretaker committee for NAESS is not only frivolous but completely unconstitutional.
As the constitution of NAESS does not empower the SA to constitute any committee for the association.
Therefore, we condemn such action in its entirety and call on all Ebonyi students to stand firm against illegality.

"That Mr Gideon Onwe should as matter of urgency, desist from his undue interference on issues concerning the National Association of Ebonyi state students and focus on the duty assigned to him by our peace-loving Governor.

"That the Forum of Local Government Undergraduate Presidents is mandated to conduct an election that will produce a leadership acceptable by all Ebonyi students within and not more than a period of 2 months.
