Allow Gov Umahi Finish His Tenure --- NANS Warns Ebonyi Political Gladiators

The National Association of Nigerians Students NANS, on Friday called on the political gladiators in Ebonyi State to put to an end, the political war going on the State, warning that such Political war could  pose a threat to peace and security and capable of truncating the ongoing infrastructural development going on in the state.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki,  the state capital, on behalf of the students, the Special Assistant to Ebonyi state government on students affairs, Mr Gideon Onwe, said the governor has done great works for the people of the state and should be supported to complete all his ongoing projects that is located across the 13 LGAs of the state.

According to him: “We agreed to work as one body to ensure that there is peace in Ebonyi state. The students looked at the situation of things as regards Ebonyi politics. And we came together to say, though the students are apolitical, but then, they believed that the government has done so much for the people of the state.

“And as such, they are calling on all well meaning Ebonyians, including all the political players in the state to give their supports to the governor, Chief David Umahi to conclude his tenure that just remained one year and four months.

“Umahi has done a good job for Ebonyi people, especially with the construction of ultra modern Airport, new stadium and other gigantic projects that has not been in existence before he became the governor of the state.

“The students are happy with the good works the governor has done for the people. The governor should be given the support to finish all the projects his administration has started doing. The governor has less than one year and four months for him to complete his administration.

“The students are aware that if the governor is not given the opportunity to complete his tenure, that most of these gigantic projects his administration has started doing will be abandoned by the next person.

“The people that will make use of these projects are Ebonyians. The students won’t be happy that these great works of the governor are done half way or abandoned. The only way to avert abandonment of projects in the state is to allow the governor to complete his tenure.

“All that the Ebonyi students are demanding is that political players should support Umahi to finish his administration” he stated.

Also speaking, the coordinator of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, zone B south- south and southeast Comrade Olisa Nwuruku tasked political players in the state to maintain status quo, and allow the governor complete his tenure.

“The Leadership of Ebonyi State Students’ Community protests any ploy and strategy, mischievously calculated to rope our Students into the square of partisanship. Any plan drawn to turn our Students into card carrying members of any Political Party in the State, antagonises the course we uphold.

“We are Simply “Students”, who are yet to get acquainted with the prons and cons of circular politics, and at the present time, we are primarily faced with the demands of our studies and relative operations, which are grossly incompatible with the current political tune of the State.

“The perceived plan is strange and unprecedented, and lacks reference to the history of Studentship in the Country; we therefore speak to remind everyone involved in this decried attempt of this copious distinction” he stated.
