NUGA Council Commends AE-FUNAI VC

...Even as AE-FUNAI male football team defeats UNN 7:6 on penalties to represent Zone 0 at NUGA Finals in Lagos

The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Council, Zone O has commended the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state, Prof. Sunday Elom for his support to the development of sports in the southeast region, especially for hosting the NUGA Qualifiers in the University from Thursday, 27th to 31st January, 2022.

They made the commendation on Monday, 31st January 2022, during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor for his financial and infrastructural support in making the games a success, while also intimating him of the University’s qualification to represent the Zone in male football at the finals holding in University of Lagos in March 2022

While speaking during the visit, the Vice Chairman NUGA, Mr Emeka Ogbu applauded the Vice-Chancellor who also is the Grand Patron of South East Universities Games Association, for making good his promise in hosting NUGA zone 0 preliminaries in the University.

“We are here to show and demonstrate our solidarity, support, appreciation as well as gratitude in your show of love. We are really proud of you and we make bold to say that you are really our Grand Patron’’ he said. 

Continuing, Mr. Ogbu noted that it is the beginning of the actualization of the aim of making South East the epicentre of university sports development. He equally informed the          Vice-Chancellor of the upcoming sports summit holding at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in February this year, and pleaded for his approval to enable the AE-FUNAI’s Sports Unit to be part of it.

Earlier, the Head, AE-FUNAI Sports Unit, Mr. Yinka Olawoyin, appreciated the                    Vice-Chancellor for approving and financing the hosting of the NUGA Qualifiers, adding that the fiesta has given the University an advantage, exposed the students and further encouraged the Unit to continue to work hard in showcasing the University for future sporting events.

‘’We thank you for your support, financially and morally, we are proud of you as a University and we will continue to give our best from the Unit’’ he pledged.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom thanked the NUGA Council for choosing          AE-FUNAI as the host of the games despite the fact that it is relatively young in comparison to other universities in the zone. He also assured of his administration’s commitment to sports and sporting activities in the University and beyond.
