Special Court Jails Four Drivers For Illegal Parking In Ebonyi

Four (4) drivers have bagged a three (3) month jail term because of illegal parking in Ebonyi State. The drivers were sentenced by a special court in the state.

According to Magistrate Ngozi Ngele of the special court, the decision was in pursuant to the Traffic Flow and Parking Restrictions (special provision) Regulations 2008 in the state.

The Magistrate maintained that the four drivers were found guilty as charged and were convicted to serve as deterrent to others in the state.

Also, an Assistant Chief State Counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Lilian Okorie, disclosed that the convicts were given option of N20, 000 fines for the infraction.

“What transpired in court today was that drivers caught loading passengers at a place, apart from the government designated parks, were convicted. The four drivers were convicted to three months jail with option of payment of N20, 000 fines as punishment for contravention of the law.

“The defendants were five but the magistrate saw reasons to convict four and pardon one Ezeh Martins who said that he was in his car (when arrested).

“The drivers committed offences that are punishable under the Traffic Flow and Parking Restrictions (special provision) Regulations 2008,” Okorie said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Capital City Development, Ebonyi State, Enyinnaya Okoagwu, noted that the men contravened the law by parking and loading at unauthorised places in the state.

He advised the drivers to always obey the law by using designated parks for their businesses in the state.
