NGO Offers Scholarship To Indigent Students In Ebonyi


Students of Holy Child Secondary School,Iboko in Izzi Local government area of Ebonyi State have  received scholarship from a non governmental organization,  Project Adesso for  their jamb examination in 2021 academic session and also help them acquire digital skills that will sustain them to be self reliants after their graduation.

The leader of the project, Mr.Nnaemeka Phil Eke-Okocha  while speaking to newsmen at Holy Child Secondary School,Iboko where they donated text books,exercise books and other learning materials to students and offered scholarships  to some selected students,  stated that project Adesso is a youth driven Non governmental organization  aimed at helping students to acquire  digital skills in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in order  to survive and cope with the changing environment and also to equip them with necessary informations that will shape their lives to be responsible citizens after their graduation in various institution of higher learning.

"This is a youth led Non governmental organization with the aim of helping students to acquire digital skills and information that will sustain them to be self employed and add more value in our society.
``We help institutions to make better use of their ICT laboratories and also to make judicious use of both human and material resources in their disposal for the growth and development of our society", he said.
Mr.Eke-Okocha further explained that before embarking on such project in any school, the do carry out visibility study to know the situation of the school in order to identify the gaps that exist and ensure appropriate channeling and implementation of the resources to achieve their objectives.

Also speaking,the Deputy Project Leader of Adesso,Mr.Frank Okoro said the organization has also come amongst other things to give students Orientation on digital skills and also to distribute text books,excercis book as well as scholarship to some indigent students to enable them have formal education that will change their lives tommorow adding that the project has exposed them to challenges the never new it exists amongst students as well as ways to proffer solution to it.
He however,noted that means of transportation, Communication and securing more learning materials has been a challenge before the Organization and therefore called for more support from well meaning Nigerians to make the future of children bright by laying solid academic foundation now.

On his part,Mr.Echofu Williams applauded the efforts of the organization saying that the project has recorded huge success in the schools visited and the response of students and the management of the school  are commendable saying that`` Project Adesso' intends to achieve alot in this space of time saying that the Organization has procured  337 text books and over 600 excercis books for the pilot programme and also the volley ball court the are about to construct for students to engage in sports competition.He also added that some students has been selected for scholarship in this fourthcoming 2021 Jamb examination with other academic activities and trainings packaged through this projects to bring out the best from these students.
While interacting with some  students of the school to know their feelings about the project as well as their challenges,Miss.Idam Eze,Agbu Filomena,Idam Divine all commended the organizers of the projects for their timely intervention but however lamented of challenges that is facing the school, ranging from armed robbery attacks,lack of portable water, unstable power supply, dilapidated structures and lack of teachers to handle some subjects like CRK, Economics, English amongst others.
``The school is good but we are facing so many challenges in the hostel because some windows and doors are broken.Last time,some armed robbers came through the window and took away our belongings.In this Community,we don't have light for over six years,we do use generator and touch light to read in the night.
``In our class,our ceiling is almost pulling down which makes baths to urinate in our class.We want Government to come and assist us by providing all these things and make the environment conducive for learning.
Responding,the principal of the school,Mrs.Perpetua Alegu appreciate the Organization for selecting them as one of the pilot schools that will benefit from Project Adesso saying that the school is ever ready to corporate with the organization in order to give the pupils better education.She however called on Ebonyi state government to provide enough security men for the school and also portable water and power supply to make their teaching and learning conducive for students.
The high point of the event was the distribution of text books, excercis books and other learning materials as well awarding scholarship to some indigent students.
