Ebonyi Correspondents' Chapel elects new leadership

Comrade Samson Nwafor of Daily Independent Newspaper, the newly elected Chairman, Ebonyi State Correspondents' Chapel.

The Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi State has elected new executive.

In a keenly contested election held on Friday at the Chapel's office located at #17 Enugu, Abakaliki expressway, Spera-in-deo plaza Abakaliki, Comrade Nwafor Samson of the Daily Independent newspaper was elected the Chairman of the Chapel, while Comrade Nabob Ogbonna of the Daily Trust newspaper was elected Secretary.

Also, Comrade Christian Ogbonna of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) emerged unopposed as the Treasurer, while the positions of Vice Chairman, Financial Secretary and Auditor had no contestants.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of the newly elected executive, Comrade Nwafor Samson, thanked the members of the Chapel for finding them worthy to serve,and assured that they would not take it for granted.

Nwafor said there was no victor, no loser in the election; and pledged that the new executive led by him would cooperate and work with every member for the purpose of peace and progress of the Chapel.

He announced the plans of the new executive to constitute Elders' Council whose assignment would be to assist in ensuring stability, peace and in driving the polices and programmes of the new leadership.

He further pledged that the new executive would ensure that the Correspondents' Chapel in Ebonyi State continued to uphold the ethics and code of conduct of Journalism profession.
