Cholera: Commissioner confirms outbreak in Ebonyi community

Ebonyi Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike, Tuesday, confirmed the outbreak of cholera in some communities in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.



He made the confirmation on phone call when contacted by NATIONAL PANEL.


Reliable sources told us that the cholera outbreak affected people of Onweonwiya and those in their neighboring villages in Mgbalukwu Community in Izzi council area of the state.



The community people have called for the government intervention to save their lives following the outbreak of the pandemic.



But Umezurike said he visited the community today after being reached with the report on the recent development.


He said that all the affected persons by the disease have been taken to the General Hospital, Iboko, the Izzi Council headquarters.


"As at now, there is no record of death associaed with the cholera outbreak in the area," he added.


The Commissioner also assured of the government's intervention in taking care of the affected people, urging all and sundry to take cover as effort has been put in place to douse the tension in some communities in the state.
