Ebonyi Assembly repeals,re-enacts laws on legislative, judiciary fund mgt

The 6th Ebonyi State House of Assembly has repealed and re-enacted Laws to aid in the implementation of financial autonomy for the Judiciary and Legislature in the State. 


This was contained in a statement issued and made available to NATIONAL PANEL by Chief Press Secretary to the Honourable Speaker, Mr Leo Ekene Oketa on Thursday in Abakaliki.

Plenary Thursday, July 29, 2021 saw as part of the Business of the House, the passage into Law of A Bill for a Law to Repeal and Re-enact Ebonyi State Legislative Fund Management Law and Other Related Matters, being Law no 010 of 2021; and A Bill for a Law to Repeal and Re-enact Ebonyi State Judiciary Fund Management Law and Other Related Matters Thereto, being Law no 011 of 2021.


Recall that in 2019, the House had passed into Law, Law No. 008 of 2019 - Ebonyi State Legislative Fund Management Law, 2019; and in 2020, Law No. 020 of 2020 - Ebonyi State Judiciary Fund Management Law, 2020. 

The repealing and re-enactment of these Laws became necessary as their respective amendments were prerequisites for the implementation of the financial autonomy for these Arms of Government in the State. 

The significance of these Laws are bright as day. It is a huge milestone achievement for the Legislature and Judiciary in Ebonyi State, one which the Honourable Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and other Distinguished Members of the House are immensely proud of. 

Additionally, House screened and confirmed Hon. Justice Henry A. Njoku as Chairman of Ebonyi State Law Review and Reform Commission. Chief Barr. Samuel Okoronkwo and Dr. Richard Nnabu were equally screened and confirmed as Commissioners in Ebonyi State Executive Council.
