Ezza clan calls for cesation of hostilities b/w 2 Ebonyi communities

A CALL FOR CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES BETWEEN IZZI NNODO AND IKWO NOYO.

1. The attention of traditional rulers and elders of Ezza-Ezekuna who are the first born of Ekumenyi have been drawn to the renewed violent conflict between our younger brothers of Enyigba, Abakaliki LGA who are part of Izzi Nnodo and Enyibichiri, Ikwo LGA who are part of Ikwo Noyo which has claimed precious lives, led to kidnaps and destruction of valuable property.

2. Worrisome are the unabating crossfires of violence, threats, restraints on freedom of movement, hate-speeches and the extension of hostilities to Abakaliki Capital Territory; the rest of Izzi and Ikwo lands and even attacks on innocent Ebonyi citizens who are not even in anyway connected to the land dispute as witnessed in one of the police divisions on Thursday, 3rd June, 2021.

3. As the first born of Ekumaenyi, the people of Ezza Ezekuna, condemn in the strongest terms, the recent renewal of violent hostilities between the two brothers, more so, when the Ebonyi State Government had taken over and demarcated the disputed land between them.

4. With every sense of responsibility as their elders, Elders of Ezza Ezekuna hereby demand immediate cessation  of hostilities, threats, intimidation, hate-speeches and any other form of negative insinuations from the warring parties. We are specifically charging Traditional Rulers, leaders of thought, and particularly youth leaders of Ikwo Noyo and Izzi Nnodo clans, to ensure compliance to this call, no matter how highly provoked.

5. Given the charge in paragraph 4 and the fact that our blood affinity as Unwuekumenyi forbids causing grevious harm to or spilling the blood of one another, we, as elders of Ezza Ezekuna and, by extension, Unwuekumenyi pledge to convene in the soonest possible time a meeting with our Izzi and Ikwo brothers to resolve their respective grievances and make arrangements for the appeasement of the souls of the dead, the placation of the injured and harmed as well as the atonements for the breaches of our cultural ethos.

Long live Unwuekumenyi!
Long live Ebonyi State of Nigeria!
