Ebonyi Assembly Speaker, Commissioner in tales of the unexpected

BY IGNATIUS SOROIBE

There is a popular saying that the only permanent reality in life is Change, but in Ebonyi State change is being resisted by those who should champion it.

Speaker Nwifuru (Left) and Commissioner Nwebonyi (Right).

This is because the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the Honourable Commissioner for Capital City Development in Ebonyi, Barr.  Peter Onyebuchi Nwebonyi are currently at each others neck, for a supposed series of petitions and complaints against the Commissioner" for deliberately destroying houses and properties under the guise of building on unauthorized areas or for erecting buildings and structures without approval from his Ministry.

The House of Assembly condemned this ungentle act and passed a resolution to summon the Commissioner, Barr Nwebonyi to appear before it, for alleged "unwholesome destruction of properties and molestation of Ebonyians."

In a telephone chat with newsmen on Saturday 19th June 2021. Barr Nwebonyi bombed the House of Assembly for not hearing from him before condemning him as they were not reacting to an impulse as put to him by our Guest Writer, but that the House members acted "out of point"

He accused the Speaker and some members of the House of Assembly of breaking "their own laws by erecting buildings on an unauthorized Areas, even erecting buildings without approval from his Ministry."

The Commissioner added that, "those who were complaining were members of the opposition" who were "against the good works and the good intentions of the Governor Dave Nweze Umahi.

He however promised to appear before the House of Assembly for detailed explanation.

Recall that Mr Nasir El Rufai as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in a bid to restore the Abuja Master plan, demolished a lot of buildings and structures which led to his invitation by the two chambers of the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, a legal luminary  based in Owerri Imo state, Barr.  Chika Nwurum says  the House of Assembly acted according to the law by extending Summon to the Commissioner and that he must appear as long as there is an enabling law backing the activities of the Ministry of Capital City development.

He said this while responding to a question put to him by our Guest Writer via telephone this morning Sunday 20th June, 2021.
