Like all great men, Senator (Barr.) Paulinus Igwe Nwagu's path to greatness were dotted with daunting trials and challenges, but the graces and mercies of Almighty God have always seen him through, read on:

Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu was born  on 12th June, 1959 to the royal family of Chief Igwe Nwagu of Unwu Akam kindred in Unwu-Oru Oriuzor, Ezza North LGA of Ebonyi State. Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu is an alumnus of Central School, Oriuzor where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1978; Boys' High School, Osumenyi where he sat for his West African School Certificate in 1983; and Enugu State University of Science and Technology where he got a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 2002. Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu's insatiable appetite for knowledge made him enroll into the Faculty of Law, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree in 2009. After his graduation from Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law, he was called to the bar in 2012.

Sen. Paulinus Igwe Nwagu's life of service to humanity began like a mustard seed in 1989 when he was elected as Ward Councillor representing Oriuzor Ward II in old Ezza Local Government Area of Ebonyi State under the banner of the defunct Social Democratic Party, S.D.P. He was Supervisory Councillor for Education and rose to the positions of deputy speaker and, later, speaker of the legislative arm of the council area. His demonstration of pristine leadership potentials as a ward councellor launched him into the heart of the people and set him on trajectory of robust public service which spanned two tiers of government and launched him into national politics in Nigeria. In 1998, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu was elected as Chairman of Ezza North LGA of Ebonyi State under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, P.D.P. Fired by his leadership creed which held that "Leadership is a sacred trust which confers on the people a sacred right to good governance", young and zestful Paulinus Igwe Nwagu set a record of achievements which remains yet unbroken for 19 years in Ezza North LGA. Some of Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu's land mark projects as Ezza North LGA chairman included the construction of the present secretariat of Ezza North LGA at Ebiaji which was commissioned on 8th December, 2000 by the serving President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who, by then, was Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; the construction of Achiegu Hospital which was taken over by Ebonyi State Government and renamed Ezza North General Hospital; construction of many primary and secondary schools including Izzo Boys Secondary School; construction of bridges and rural roads across all the communities in the council area; payment of N20, 000.00 monthly honorarium to every traditional ruler in the council area; and enhancement of workers' welfare through prompt payment of salaries and wages.

Other achievements include payment of school fees for over 1000 Pre-degree students from the council area; scholarship to students in higher institutions and payment of N5,000.00 only (a princely sum at that time) as bursary allowance to every undergraduate student from Ezza North LGA. A man of peace, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu reconciled all feuding communities and thereby institutionalized peace within his jurisdiction all through his administration.

"The reward for good work", they say, "is more work". These tremendous scorecards of Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu at the grassroots level was rewarded by his people of Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency who in 2007 elected him to represent them in the Nigerian National Assembly, Abuja.  He was chairman of House of Representatives Committees on Rural Development and Police Affairs. As member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu reinvented his commitment to his people and ran a people centred representation. He sponsored three successful bills and three successful motions; secured opportunities for members of his constituency in the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and in other choice federal establishments; and was accessible to his constituents. Through his Enyi Waa Uzo Foundation, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu ran free healthcare services; a radical scholarship programme with bias on professional courses which has produced many medical doctors, engineers, scientists, lawyers and awarded three oversea scholarships; and empowered his constituents through many programmes which time may not permit us to enumerate here.

In 2011, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu's grateful constituents elected him into the Nigerian Senate where he represented Ebonyi Central Senatorial District. Here, he served as Chairman of Senate Committee on Police Affairs. He equally continued his streak of advocacy, moving and presenting successful motions and bills. His empowerment and scholarship programmes took a radical upward curve. In addition, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu executed four rural road projects; electricity projects; solar light project in Eke Imoha; two ICT centres; three classroom blocks and water borehole projects in different communities across his district.

For all these and more, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu has been honoured with a galaxy of awards and Chieftaincy titles among which is Ekfueme of Oriuzor; Enyi Waa Uzo of Ebonyi State and Ochiagha 1 of Nri Kingdom. He equally holds the highest title in Ezza Ezekuna land having been initiated into the Jioke society for which he is called Otsukpo Inyima. 

Like all great men, Senator (Barr.) Paulinus Igwe Nwagu's path to greatness were dotted with daunting trials and challenges, but the graces and mercies of Almighty God have always seen him through. Hence, it is safe to say that Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu is a man under God's graces; and like Samuel of the Bible, he and his teeming supporters are listening forward to God's instructions in the days ahead.

As Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu turns 62 on June, 2021, he, in conjunction with his family, friends, well-wishers and army of supporters cordially invite all men and women of goodwill to join them to give thanks to God and celebrate their icon of excellent public service - Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu. The celebration will comence with a Holy Mass by 10 AM prompt at the family chapel of Distinguished Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu in his Unwu-Oru Oriuzor country home, Ezza North LGA, Ebonyi State will be concluded with a reception at the celebrant's country home.
