All Progressives Congress group, under the auspices of APC Youth League, has decried the killings and burning of public property in the South-East geopolitical zone by suspected miscreants.

Describing the security challenge in region as pathetic and worrisome, the League observed that no society ever thrived in violence, calling on stakeholders to work together in order to nip the ugly situation in the bud.

The South-East Coordinator, APC Youth League, Comrade Okenwa Uka, stated this during the election of its Ebonyi State executives, in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Comrade Uka, who called for restraint on the part of the perpetrators of the menace, observed that it was worrisome the Fulani herdsmen were yet to obey the ban on open grazing, one month after governors of Southern Nigeria, unanimously took a decision on that.

Comrade Uka, who was the Returning Officer in the election, said, "Honestly speaking, the current insecurity in the South-East zone is worrisome, it's pathetic, and it's giving everybody sleepless nights.

"It does nobody or society any good, because no society has ever succeeded in crisis. How would somebody wake up in the morning and starts destroying government infrastructures?

"We complained during the #EndSARS that government has not built enough infrastructure for the people. Why then are we destroying the few ones they have built? Why would somebody wake up and starting burning police stations and  killing policemen?

"The people doing these things are someone's brothers and sisters. Why the killings? It's uncalled for; it's barbaric and it's unnecessary.

"But I have said it before, that has not gotten to a point of no return. It's still at a point where it can be controlled, a point where stakeholders including governments can control it. All hands must be on deck to ensure the insecurity situation in the region is put to a stop.

"I call on all good spirited individuals in the zone to fight this menace. The perpetrators of these distardedly acts in the zone should cease from doing so. They are called unknown gunmen; but I know they are known. These people come are from villages, they are from homes. Our people should rise up to the occasion, to stop them.

"The governors of Southern Nigeria have banned open grazing. The Fulani herdsmen should be law-abiding and heed to that ban.

"They have no option to continue to move their cows around and at the same time carrying weapons and destroying peoples farmlands, in the name of cattle rearing. By so doing, the security challenge in the zone would have been drastically reduced."

The election saw Mgbebu Ezekiel, as State Coordinator; Njoku Christian, as State Deputy Coordinator; Azi Uchechukwu, as State Secretary; Eze Uchenna, as State Deputy Secretary; Okoh Sampson, as State Vice Coordinator (A); Nwali Nelson, as State Vice Coordinator (B); and Nwiyum Clement, as State Vice Coordinator (C).

Others included Uzuka Anselem, as State Director Political Action/Mobilisation; Nwoffia Jacob, as State Director Policies/Organization; Ogbu Kelvin State Director Wealth Creation/Empowerment, among others.
