The 14th of May 2021 was a black day for Ebonyi State and the people of Ikwo Noyo clan in particular, as they woke up to behold the sad news of the demise of Engr. Mrs Uchechi Okah, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing in the state.
It was quite unbelievable but that was the true situation. The sting of death had befallen on the most trusted member of the state executive council,who had committed her service to the development of the state.
Engr. Uchechi Okah hails from Okpuitumo in Ikwo local government area and had remained a quintessential key player in the success story of Governor David Umahi's led administration.
She was last seen at the project site of David Umahi University of Health Sciences, Uburu, doing what she knew best by directing other site engineers on the best practices.
As an engineer, she remained one of the best brains and had always proved that at projects sites, come rain, come sunshine.
It is a fact to state that most of the construction works in the state by the present administration had passed through the tutelage of Engr.Uchechi Okah, as she closely and effective supervises those projects.
A Christian to the core, she had always been described by Governor David Umahi as the EFCC of the state.This was because of the high level of honesty and accountability often desplayed while carrying out her assigned responsibilities.
Infact, cases abound where Engr. Uchechi Okah had recovered huge sums of money from dubious contractors for the state government.
Engr. Uche would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that quality job was done at project sites without any compromise.
It is unfortunate that Engr. Okah, left the stage when the ovation was loudest and her service mostly needed to complete the ongoing state projects.
Like every other mortals, Engineer Okah, has gone to meet her maker, but her legacy of offering quality service to the state remains indelible.
What a big and irreversible loss?
Ebonyi State has lost a rare gem, an active key player of Ebonyi project.
However, Governor David Umahi should be commended for taking a proactive step to fly her for medical treatment when she was reported sick. If it was possible, the cold hand of death would have been cut off.
Ikwo Noyo have lost their only female engineer, highly talented and hardworking.
Before her demise, Engr.Okah was the only Commissioner of Ikwo extraction, after the resignation of Mrs Rebecca Ogbewu, former Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state.
What a great loss, but, who can question God? No body.
