Group to Umahi's Attackers: Retrace your steps or risk facing public opprobrium

Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State.

A group known as Ebonyi Concerned Citizens for Good Governance on Tuesday tasked the former House of Representatives member, Mr. Linus Okorie, who represented Ohaozara/Ivo/Onicha Federal constituency for allegedly spreading what they described as unfounded rumours against Governor David Umahi and however, asked him to retrace his steps or risk facing public opprobrium.

The group noted with dismay that the former Federal lawmaker could condescend so low to accuse Governor David Umahi of plots to demolish his Citi Hub Event Centre located along old Enugu/Abakaliki Federal road, Ebonyi state.

  Linus Okorie, ex-Reps member.

They made this known in a seven paragraph communiqué signed by its Chairman, Evangelist Philip Okorie Ogbonaya and Secretary, Prof Nnachi Uka Ama and

According to the the communiqué, “Ebonyi Concerned Citizens for Good Governance has observed with great dismay the recent series of unpalatable and undemocratic activities of some unpatriotic Ebonyians that have continued to paint the good image of the State black.

“The Group particularly expresses displeasure with the controversial account of alleged kidnap of one Mr. Amos Ogbonnaya and its attendant hue and cry. We are specifically sad with the attempt by the faceless political elements to capitalize on the alleged development to cast aspersion on the good image of our performing Governor who has sworn to take Ebonyi State to high equator of global development index.

“We has noted with reservation the unabated peddling of false alarm and fake news by a supposed Statesman, Mr. Linus Abba Okorie in which he has variously accused the State Government of plot to demolish his Citi Hub Event Centre in Abakaliki. It is pathetic that the person of such standing can condescend so low in peddling unfounded rumours and we hereby enjoin him to retrace his steps or face public opprobrium” they noted.

The group however tasked oppositions in the state to desist from alleged senseless and destructive criticisms against the State Government led by Governor David Umahi.

“Ebonyi Concerned Citizens for Good Governance is of the view that the essence of opposition is to guide Government through constructive criticisms and not emphasis on hate speeches, falsehood and assassination of characters of our leaders.

“The group uses this opportunity to admonish the above mentioned political detractors to refrain from their mischief against the governance of David Umahi. We, therefore, enjoin Ebonyians to disregard the falsehood of the above mischief makers as they represent the figment of their filthy imagination.

“We commend highly the governor David Umahi for the gamut of transformation he has brought to Ebonyi State with the limited resources accruable to the State from the Federation account” the group stressed.

Reacting, the former lawmaker Mr. Linus Okorie said it is unwarranted for his name to be mentioned by groups or government officials especially when it comes to the recent abduction of the former council boss, one Amos Ogbonnaya who was abducted by suspected kidnapers at Okposi community in Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi state.

He said: “Be that as it may, the police and other security agencies are expected to consider all facts and scenarios in determining whether or not the victim was abducted by himself, his friends or government agents as alleged, some of who he positively identified.

“On the part of those of us being repeatedly called names by the government side, there is no fear or undue concern  about the “loud” threats and intricate plots of mendacious “entanglement” being weaved to ensnare us by those who should, otherwise, be genuinely focused on achieving a credible  closure to this abominable criminal act.

“it is very odd contribution to a crime that the state governor has already acknowledged happened, commiserated with the victim and ordered a full scale investigation.

”Our position in the PDP, especially those of us erroneously mentioned repeatedly by the state, is that security agencies should be allowed unfettered freedom to undertake their statutory role of conducting investigations into the matter so that any outcome will not only be credible but be seen by all concerned to have been credible."
