King David Medical University: The Great Stride in Ebonyi Health and Education Sectors

...Governor Umahi since assuming office on 29th May, 2015 has made education and health one of the priority areas in budget and project delivery system. And the two have always had the highest vote in yearly budget appropriation. In 2021 budget appropriation for instance, education has the highest vote followed by health sector. Apart from making education interesting and compulsory,  Governor Umahi has renovated the hitherto dilapidated education facilities in the state  while building new ones. As a result , education enrolment has doubled from 40% to 85%,  Donald Matt-Udeh writes.
Necessity is said to be "the mother of invention."  Thus, most of the greatest inventions today were created as a result of some grim necessities. And to accomplish these feats, there must be a clear understanding of the greatest challenges and need of man. This is the reason that one of the world's greatest discoveries is the discovery of medical science. Another like that is the discovery of modern  teaching and learning methods with State of the arts education and health care system and facilities.

However, as a result of the compelling need to meet up with his avowed promise of transforming Ebonyi State and putting it on global economic map of the world, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State,  Engr Dr  David Nweze Umahi has decided to upgrade the ongoing project of college of medicine in Uburu to a full fledged independent medical University to  be known as the KING DAVID UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES.

Addressing newsmen yesterday at the Executive Council Chambers after the weekly Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Health,  Dr Daniel Umezuruike broke the cheering news.

According to Dr Umezurike, " the King David medical University which will be a state owned higher institution will apart from becoming a centre of excellence also  create employment while generating incomes for the state government.

The  Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health stated that the Medical University instead of  becoming a burden to the state, will add to the entrepreneurial policy agenda of the state government as it will be self sustaining. He clarified that the Medical university will not be a private university but will work in collaboration with other universities in the state to meet up with the health care needs of our people and visiting medical tourists.

More so, the King David Medical University will be a modern state of the arts medical tourist centre with modern scientific cancer screening and dialysis centre. Most of the medical trips done  abroad in Indian, London and American hospitals will now be done in Ebonyi State . The economic gains will be highly enormous because apart from giving affordable and quality health care services, the menace of capital flight will be arrested and the money hitherto spent abroad now channelled into the education and health care sectors of the economy.

The modern world developmental agenda on health and education has in recent years received a priority attention. This is owing to the rising cases of health care needs occasioned by discoveries of new sicknesses and diseases hitherto unknown in human medical history  and rising cases of brain drain and poor school  enrolment arising from poor teaching and learning methods vis a vis dilapidated education facilities.

Consequently , Governor Umahi since assuming office on 29th May, 2015 has made education and health one of the priority areas in budget and project delivery system.

As a result , education enrolment has doubled from 40% to 85%.

Governor Umahi has also made education cheap, affordable and interesting by paying teachers salaries before the end of every month and slashing the school fess of Ebonyi State University students by 10%. Governor Umahi also increased the EBSU monthly vote  from #200m to #500million. While the 13 General Hospitals and more than 70 primary health care centres have been  renovated and equipped to meet the excellent and quality policy agenda of Governor Umahi's avid administration
The era of debilitating and dilapidated education and health care infrastructures has  become a thing of the past in Ebonyi.State. The diversionary and divisive attempt of the opposition elements who are hellbent on blackmailing the good image of the state government has always been rendered null and void because the more they try to criticize the good works under the government of Governor David Nweze Umahi, the more he punishs them with even more  bigger projects.
