Easter: Evangel University VC urges Nigerians to rededicate selves to Creator

The Vice Chancellor of Evangel University, Professor Ichie Ukpai Kalu has used the occasion of 2021 Easter celebration to call on Nigerians to re-dedicate themselves to their creator by reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ which he said was a supreme price for the salvation of mankind.

This is contained in a statement endorsed by the Director of Public Affairs of the University, Dr. Tiben Benz Nwali and made available to the press in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

According to the statement, the 2021 Easter celebration remains significant as it represents once again God’s unlimited love for mankind who sent His only begotten Son to come and die for the sins of man.

Prof. Kalu therefore used the medium to call on all, especially Christians to reflect on the wonders of the cross and supreme sacrifices of the blood of Christ instead of focusing on earthly materialism and wasteful celebrations.

He congratulated all the staff and students of Evangel University for yet another opportunity to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He equally called on them be focused and fully committed to the course of building an enviable University that would in all sense of responsibility, offer total education for the total man.

“Easter celebration symbolizes one of the many ways through which the loving-kindness of the Almighty God has manifested on mankind and I wish to         congratulate you for the 2021 edition.

“It would be remembered that the previous year was challenging and posed great threat to humanity globally as the last edition of Easter was celebrated under lockdown and excruciating pains that overshadowed the universe. However, God has shown us mercy and today, we have the cause to rejoice and celebrate the most significance of God’s goodness for His people.

“As we celebrate, I wish to draw the attention of the staff and students of our great University to the enormous duties before us and our collective responsibility towards building an enviable citadel of learning, the Evangel University in Ebonyi State.

“We have together moved the University to the place of promise, having faced the hurdles of various accreditations of some programmes in the University and came out successfully with full accreditation and we are also optimistic that our medical programmes will likewise shine out successfully as we expect NUC accreditation team few days after the Easter celebration”, Kalu noted.

The erudite Prof. Kalu also used the medium to call on the federal government and security agencies to be more alive in securing life and properties of people, adding that the University was in great shock when alleged herdsmen massacred over 25 Ebonyians in Ishielu Local   Government Area of Ebonyi State where the take-off Campus of the University is situated.

He cautioned students of the University to avoid lonely movements and night travels in order not to fall victim of any unfortunate circumstances.
