Communication scholars advocate for media professionalism, synergy among practitioners

The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, ACSPN, Ebonyi State Chapter, Tuesday advocated for media professionalism by the practitioners in the society.

ACSPN also called for synergy among the pressmen and  Media scholars across the nation, urging them to be working towards delivering substantive communication services for developmental purpose.


The Vice President Southeast of ACSPN, Dr Mrs Ifeyinwa Nsude made the call during the empowerment programme organized for the students of mass communication and journalists in Ebonyi State.

Mrs Nsude, who is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication in Ebonyi State University, stated that the empowerment programme was organised by ACSPN in conjunction with the Department of Mass Communication in Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.


She said the programme was a part of series of events by the association towards empowering the young generation ofJournalists, through the experiences of  experts who have undergone different communication industries.

"It all started in our last conference. It happened that I emeged as the Vice President, Southeast zone, and the national body, in order to reach the grassroots with information and empowerment of children and even the journalists.

"We are divided the entire country into six geographical zones, and they delegated us to ensure that we organize things like this, there are three major areas ACSPN focuses on, one is empowerment series.

"Where we invite experts to give motivational talks to these young ones, both those still in school, and the young journalists in the field.


"We have the history series, whereby scholars and experts would come and tell us thier histories, how they started and succeeded. We learn from their experience," she explained.

The Lecturer further stated the need to acquire more knowledge as it helps to rejuvenate people, adding that the learning process is endless and advised everyone to seek to know more.

"Learning is a continuous process, you must learn one thing or the other by attending workshops like this, we have the eminent scholars series, a situation where we invite people that are not in communication but have something to Impact on people, to talk to us and we learn, our aim is to move  the society forward," she added.

Nsude however, appealed to communication scholars and practitioners as well as students to join the association by jointly working  towards harnessing the power of the media and to stop wrong practices and disagreements among journalists in the mass media world.
