Call for Ebonyi security commissioner's sack: PDP's move to ridicule Umahi

Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha.

The agitations and calls for the sack of the Commissioner for Internal Security, Border Peace and Conflict Resolution in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha have been described as a jot of manifestation of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against Governor David Umahi's led administration, Polycarp Obinna Alegu writes.

I was not surprised reading a garbage called an open letter to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state by one Barr S.S Ugama, yesterday, pressurizing that Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha be sacked as a Commissioner for Internal Security, Border Peace and Conflict Resolution in the state. Ugama hollowly and absurdly pointed that Emegha be sacked because he's both the Security Commissioner and the State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and that he has been hosting political activities and visiting party's stakeholders, and not paying much attention to security challenges in the state. Ugama also mentioned communal crisis in Effium, recent killings in Ishielu LGA and Ngbo, Ohaukwu LGA by suspected Fulani herdsmen as why Emegha should be removed.

Yes, I was not surprised to read the junk written by a PDP youth, Barr Ugama, because it was an iota of manifestation of the conspiracies of/by the Ebonyi PDP Youths. On Saturday last week, a crop of youths under the aegis of Ebonyi PDP Youths had a meeting in Salt Lake Hotel, Abakaliki (a hotel owned by a PDP senator) and agreed to carry out actions to distracting the Governor Dave Umahi led Ebonyi State Government. According to them, it's another strategy to bring aground the APC in the state as well as punish the governor for leaving their necrotic party, PDP for the APC, (as divulged by some of the attendees).

In carrying out their collusion, two days ago, Ebonyi PDP Youths issued a press release that a car belonging to one of them, Mr Ezekiel Oji from Afikpo south LGA was snatched in Abakaliki three days ago by unknown persons, and threatened Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha to recover the car within 24 hours or face the other part of them. As if Okoro Emegha was employed to be overseeing the movement of the car. As if robbery attack never happened anywhere in the world before. And yesterday, one of the Ebonyi PDP youths, Barr Ugama published his letter.

I wouldn't have reacted to Ugama's attention-seeking letter since Ebonyians know the truth, but for the sake of the gullible ones, comes this piece so they may not be deceived.

Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha is a man under the grace of God. And God has chosen him to serve the people in different capacities because he has the leadership qualities and administrative vigours. There is nothing wrong that Chief Emegha is both a Commissioner and party chairman. You can only assign two functions to capable leaders which Chief Emegha is one. You hardly see a professor that is not lecturing with more than three different universities. The reason is that, it is tantamount to underutilization of wealth of knowledge if many people are not tapping from a professor being a guru in a particular discipline. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state is also doubling as the Caretaker National Chairman of the APC because he has the capability. The lawmakers in local governments, states and national assembly  belong to different house committees. You could see a house committee chairman being a member of more than four committees. Mr Chidiebere Egwu (Hulala) was a PDP youth(s) leader and at the same time a Special Assistant to the governor. He was also a PDP youth(s) leader and also serving as a Caretaker Chairman of Ikwo LGA. In fact, we have thousands of people holding double positions in Nigeria both in PDP and APC. And Ugama and his cohorts never complained.

Ugama should look for a convincing propaganda and leave an innocent man alone. Hatred is bad. Chief Emegha is the best in Umahi's government. He's experienced in peacemaking and security. A man who doesn't sleep and always on duty to ensure Ebonyians sleep with their two eyes closed. He has been settling cases between communities, between groups, and suchlike. He's ever untirng in discharging his duties. And I'm even appealing that the Governor Umahi still gives Chief Emegha more portfolios or ministries to man and see him (Emegha) perform excellently in all of them, because he has the administrative gravitas endowed in him by God.

On the crisis in Effium and recent killings in two areas mentioned above by Ugama, the state government had set up committees saddled with the responsibility of nipping the crisis in the bud as well as returning absolute peace to the area(s). And efforts have been on top gear to ensure tranquility. Blaming Chief Emegha over the crisis is a total lost of sight and reasoning. Emegha is not from Effium neither is he from Ezza. He's not even from Ebonyi central and Ebonyi North. The state government also condemned the killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen and sent condolences to the victims and/or affected people. And yesterday, the governor through Chief Okoro Emegha distributed over 100 brand new bikes and logistics to security operatives to use and be patrolling the troubled areas as well as navigating into the hinterlands to ensure adequate security of lives and property statewide.

Ugama contradicted himself by saying that Chief Emegha has been hosting political activities and visiting party's stakeholders from house to house. When did it become unconstitutional for a party chairman to host political activities? Emegha visiting party men for unity and peace of the party and the state is also part of making peace in the state because a political party is an appendage to the government, and party members are not aliens; they are also citizens or indigenes of the state.

While I condemn in totality the wanton killings of the people anywhere, Ebonyi PDP should stop politicizing security challenges in the state. From time immemorial, crises had occured in different countries, states and communities. Ebonyi is not the first to witness so, and all hands should be on deck to grapple with the security challenges. Security should be everybody's business. Throwing invectives on Chief Emegha and deriding his efforts in making peace in the state is uncalled for. In a state where we have the police, the army, the DSS, the civil defense and other security outfits, and you singled out a civilian for blame, you're biased.

We are all one Ebonyians and we should love ourselves. We should eschew anything capable of breaching peace in the state. Mendacious accusation(s) is not the solution. There is no gain in violence and killing of brothers and sisters in the name of communal crisis. Anyone having hand in the killing of the people must face the comeuppances and/or wrath of God/gods in due course.

There is no good war and no bad peace. Peace I preach.
